WWYD- Doctor?

posted 8th Jan
So... I have pretty decent bronchitis right. Going on 3 weeks. I bark when I cough and sounds like a seal. It's really nasty and deep. I have phlegm that is brownish green, although it rarely comes up, even though I try. I choke on it, and it completely blocks my airway and I'm fighting for air for a few seconds. I also cough so violently that I'm constantly peeing on myself (and need to wear a pad), and I've thrown up twice.

I've been to urgent care twice, and the ER once (breathing treatment).

Got a shot of antibiotics, and a scrip for Z pack. Finished it.
Got a shot of steroids, and finished a scrip of prednisone.
Got scrip for tessalon pearls for cough, finished it
Got advair inhaler, which I also finished

Been taking mucinex, cough syrup, and advil (for the intense pressure and pain in my head and chest when I cough.

wtf do I do now? I'm still having issues, and I can hear a TON of wheezing and rattling around when I breath in and out.

It could be pneumonia

I just heard whooping cough is going around bad right now. Maybe ask the Dr if it could be that.

I had them done at the ER, and they said everything was fine... but with as much stuff is sitting there in my lungs, I dont know how I could be fine, to be honest. I went there 10 days ago. I wonder if it's gotten any worse?

Do you have a doctor? If so I would make an appointment and see what they say.

You think the antibiotics would have knocked that out though? I heard that's whats given, and I got vax'd against it after Liv was born almost 2 years ago

It can get bad pretty fast
I've had pneumonia 4 times and it always takes forever to go away

Does this sound like similar symptoms? What was the treatment you got?

I dont... I'd have to pick one through my HMO, and that takes a few weeks to start.... and I dont have any time off work anymore. Ugh

That's what I was thinking... that the antibiotic wasn't strong enough.

Definitely sounds like its more than just bronchitis. I think.whooping.cough is the one where you sound like a seal right? If not I would say pneumonia. Hope whatever it is goes away soon, sounds absolutely miserable.

I had a cold like that last year. The only thing that helped was liquid codeine with promethazine. Codeine is a cough suppressant. I also had to take a course of anti fungals and use my albuterol 4 times a day.

I would try to get some stronger antibiotics, and see if they will give you the steroids at the same time, like a double whammy to knock out the inflammation in your lungs and the infection. Also, has no one offered you an Albuterol/Xopenex rescue inhaler? If you are wheezing, that should help you breathe a little easier. I really hope you feel better soon, it sucks to have such a bad cough, you can't relax and get rest like you need to!
