do you take vitamins?

posted 8th Jan
Do you take them daily as part of your routine for weight loss/healthy living? And if you do, what all do you take?

I used to take a multi, but my doctor advised that they really don't do a lot of good.

No.
But I probably should take vitamin B12, vitamin D, and fish oil.
Im always tired and have zero energy, those would probably help.

No offense but, your doctor is a moron.
Vitamins and minerals are essential to good health. We don't get as much of it from our food sources anymore due to the over-processing of foods.
Unless you are eating a totally awesome fresh diet (fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean meats, etc) then you need to take a multi-vitamin.
Not for weight loss mind you, just for over-all health.

I did with DD. This time around, I took them here and there. Then stopped due to hyperemesis (perinatal pills made it worse). I do try to take fish oil as often as possible though.

Multivitamin, b complex, b12, omega 3's, calmag, d, k, probiotics. Yep I take handfuls. At least when I don't have morning sickness; all I can manage now is the multi and the b.
Doctors frequently don't know what they're talking about when it comes to nutrition and supplementation. For example, my dad's doctors told him nutrition won't do anything to help his cancer, which is completely ridiculous.
But it is true that a lot of multivitamins don't do any good. We call them bowl ringers - they come out the same they went in (centrum is a good example). You have to get a high quality, natural one, not the synthetic crap you buy at the grocery store. I use Nutrilite.

It's really sad and awful that doctors will tell patients that nutrition won't help their illness at all.
Food can be one of the best medicines around! Hell a simple example would be to think about how you feel physically after eating a big burger dripping with grease and delicious cheese and then think about how you feel after eating a light salad with tons of veggies.

Makes sense to me.. he just said that the majority of multi vitamins are not very easily absorbed by the body.. I think if you take them separetly it's different?

Yea that's true. Like another user said, taking ones that are higher quality and such are probably going to absorb better.

The best way to get all your vitamins is of course to eat a diet that is heavy in all kinds of fresh foods. It is tough though. I've studied nutrition and know what it can do for your body and I still struggle with eating healthy, lol.

I was told that taking vitamins will help with weight loss. Which makes sense. If your body is lacking something you can't expect it to be healthy. I try to remember to take the womens one a day vitamins but i forget most days.

I take calcium and iron. Although the iron was prescribed to me by my doctor because I'm anemic.. I don't know if that counts as a vitamin.
