Dtap Fever 103.8

posted 8th Jan
My daughter had her fourth Dtap shot yesterday at her 4 year old well check.
Last night she spiked a fever of 103.8 that was hard to get down though we eventually did.
We sent in a urine specimen which was negative and she has no other symptoms.

Anyone had a bad vaccine reaction? A fever this high from a vaccine?
How long did it last if so?

I was always told to go in ASAP for vaccine reactions or call the number on the leaflet!

my DD always gets a high fever with dtap.
Never 103, but it's been like 101 but that's high for me because she's a baby.

My son had a BA reaction to the only flu shot he ever had. His fever shot up to 103-104 and he started having seizures. He was hospitalized and on a ventilator for 4 days and hospitalized in the regular rooms for another three and he was able to be extubated.
Have you called the number on the info sheet??

Did he offer to DO anything or tell you what to do?

Because "oh yeah, she's having a bad reaction" is something a stranger could tell you. She needs to be looked at to make sure it doesn't get worse!

nope. he said stay with her and monitor her (she seems fine otherwise) and just keep her cool.
he said the fever could last 2 days

Serious vaccine reactions are a lot more common than we're led to believe. Check out Great Mothers (and others) Questioning Vaccines on facebook. Also The Thinking Mom's Revolution those are good places to start. Also vaccine reactions tend to escalate with subsequent doses.

If she ever gets another it could be deadly.

I would stop the DTAP. Or at least break it up. I NEVER do cocktails, that way if there is a reaction it isn't going to be as severe and you will know which one caused it to avoid it altogether in the future.

But keep an eye on her and if her fever becomes too hard to break call the doctor back and insist he offer some advice.
Is her injection site hot?

Every new reaction will be worse than the one before. If she were to get another reaction it could be severe. Please check out the great mothers questioning vaccines, there are a LOT of very knowledgeable ladies and gentlemen in there that can give advice about detoxing her. Also, PLEASE report to VAERS.

Where do you get single dosed vaccines? The manufacturers no longer make them because they are too expensive and not in demand from what I have found researching.
