cleaning with an infant

posted 8th Jan
so my nesting kicked in AFTER i had my DS lol. Thing is though he is in the I will scream bloody murder if you aren't holding me stage. I tried wearing him and that didn't last long, he isn't in the mood for his swing. He is fed and dry, just wants to be held. I'm so far behind on housework though and I need both hands sometimes. Any tips or tricks for cleaning with an infant who wants to be held?

Unless your house is absolutely filthy, then love your baby. Housework can always wait.

Clean when he is sleeping

If wearing him isn't working you're going to need to learn to do it one handed. Or just clean when your LO is sleeping.

Get a wrap or sling and wear baby? We use a Moby wrap and get all the things done around the house.

Edit: I missed the wearing didn't last part. Maybe keep trying? Babies love being held so if you find the wrap carry, maybe he'll like it more? Took us 3 before we found the right one.

This.

LO is 15 months and I still have to wait til his nap to clean.

Or you can invite a friend over to hold him while you do some errands.

But...cleaning can wait. They only want to be held for so long before they find their independence! Enjoy it!

You have an excuse why your house is a mess!

yea right now it looks like a bomb went off in my house. I have to wait 2 weeks till the next paycheck and im going to beg him for a wrap. Im so behind on laundry and i feel like a fail housekeeper atm. onev handed it is for now. And I wish he would take more naps then he does. I get maybe 15-30 min naps once or twice a day. He is just to interested in the world to sleep.

It's fine. You havent found your "routine yet."

I am pretty sure almost all our houses were a complete mess those first few months.

lol thats good to hear. I dont have any friends here to call. Ever since I moved I have been in the house almost all the time. I keep procrastinating looking at the mommy and me classes and the YMCA right down the street from us. I just get to a point where the mess makes me so anxious and I have hardly any clothes left to wear. How did you find your routine? My little guy is 3 months atm. And of course as I say he hardly naps, he falls asleep lol. I have been standing up, holding him in the football hold while typing with the other hand and then going back to trying to pick things up off the floor. LOL oh boy

My LO is four months old and I still don't get all the housework done everyday. The way I see it: I am not going to look back and wish i had done more cleaning. I am going to look back and cherish all the time I got to spend with her  .

In my job before LO I had to be very organized now I am a SAHM and organization has gone out the window. Most days it looks like we have a toy explosion by 9am but as long as LO is happy, then I am happy. I now try to fit things in when he is napping or after he has gone to bed. If a job does not get done one day then it will get done eventually.

Can anyone help you with your house? My mum came down (and still does) and helped out with the housework or looked after LO whilst I did the housework. It did really help me out at the beginning.

My kid is 4.5 YEARS old and I still don't get everything done everyday. Or if I do, then the mess just gets started again.

I'm all about having fun and playing. So what if I have 2 loads of laundry to do, or a sink ful of dishes? I'm busy raising a human

With my second I had to do so much with just one hand. With this baby we havnet gotten our routine down yet. However, I would try to get him to nap once in morning and once in evening. Then I'd clean in morning and maybe make dinner during second nap. that was our routine with my second. I had my first and second child on same routine. Also maybe let DH hold him tonight and you just clean away while he's home to help with baby. Then the half hour in the mornings should be enough to help you get things done.

This is a good day! lol Im going to get some more laundry and dishes going and I already talked to my hubby about getting a wrap. He was like uhhh...ok? Why do you need it? lol When my DH gets home from work I'll get him to have some daddy/son time while mommy cleans some more
