How much on groceries?
posted 8th Jan
How much do you think is a good amount of money to spend per week on groceries or prepared food for two? Single mom and toddler, and presumably low on meat. (semi-vegetarian at most.)
I'm trying to budget and groceries are one area I could stand to rein in expense.

I live in South Carolina. We usually spend about $100 a week on the three of us. I usually make everything from scratch. It's so much more expensive for us down here than it was in Washington!

Buy in bulk. I can't say how much is a good amount because I've never paid full price for food. You can do 10lb bags of rice, wheat, and beans and they stay good for a long time.

Our budget adjusted to that would be $150-200/mo.

I might try the bulk/storing thing. I know that with her dad, we were spending about $200-250 every two weeks. He eats expensively though. All brand name. packaged lunches, microwaveable meals. Since we will no longer be room mates, I have a good feeling just she and I can do a lot better. I cook from scratch but haven't been buying bulk.

We spent 100/week on just DH and myself before we had kids. Now that we have two kids we try to stay under $100 because we don't have the money for extras like we used to. Last week I spent under $40 though because I am working off what we have in the cupboard and fridge still.
Just takes planning and using sales to plan your menu. I do a week at a time but I know other people who plan two weeks or a month in advance.

We spend about 100-150 a week on 2 adults and 2 toddlers.
If it were just me and a child it would probably only be about 50 a week honestly lol. My husband eats alot

We spend $100-$150 for 2 adults and a toddler. And we eat meat at every dinner.

I spends about $250-$300 a week for the 4 of us, but that also includes things like paper towels, laundry detergent etc....plus we eat meat. I also don't cut any coupons on shop around for things, so I'm sure if you did, you could probably get it down to $50-$75 a week for yourself and a toddler.

we spend about $300 a month on food.
That's for me, SO, and DD.
But SO has to have breakfast and lunch for work so that is about $15-$20 a week.

I'm capable of spending 65/wk on a family of four. I could totally do 50 dollars a week and get enough.

I have two boys me and my hubby and I easily spend $250 a week. It's insane!! Once my baby girl starts eating good I suppose it will be even more.
