4 week old & sleep

posted 8th Jan
My daughter is almost 4 weeks old and we're having trouble getting her to stay asleep at night. She's sleeping about 3 hours between feedings, but we're having a hard time getting her to stay asleep once she has been fed. I'll rock her in my arms, and she'll fall asleep, but as soon as I set her down, she'll wake up and start crying within a few minutes. Sometimes I'll try feeding her more, but she's not still hungry. We have her in a Rock n Play that she was sleeping in, but now she seems to wake herself up once we put her in it. Sometimes it takes an hour before she'll finally fall asleep. Does anyone have advice on how to get her to stay asleep?

Do you turn on any lights when she wakes up? That may be the problem.

With both my kids (I nursed so I didn't have bottles to deal with. Just adding that because you didn't specify what you do), I never turned on lights. We had night lights that are on all night so I can just get them, feed them and put them back to bed. My oldest was sleeping all night at 3 months and my baby started sleeping all night at 6 weeks. I never had sleep issues with them. When I fed them at night they would go right back to sleep.

No, we do not turn on any lights. I have a night light on so we can see enough to feed her the bottle.

Do you swaddle she might be waking herself up with her reflexes? And my newborns didn't behave like that they went back to sleep straightaway but they were swaddled.

Welcome to those long nights you've heard so much about  ..It'll be over soon, some babies just need to be held and soothed to feel comfy

My oldest hated being swaddled and my baby that is the only way he would sleep

Is a soothie the same thing as a nook?

No sorry my son did the same thing and starting fighting sleep at that age was supprised because I didn't know they could start that young. Only thing we could think of is he was being comforted by being held he also has reflux to... My mom explained it to me like this that he was in the womb and didn't have to worry about reflux or being in pain from it and that he wants to be comforted so thats what we do! He does sleep in his rock and play sleepr now but have to swaddle him.

Recommend swaddling and lying her down in the crib when quiet and sleepy, but still awake so she learns to self-soothe and fall asleep without being held/rocked.

Gong thru this now with my LO, she is also 4 weeks. Hoping it's phase, and only thing tht works is to feed her in bed (I breastfeeding) so I can get some shut eye because if I feed and place her in he crib or even swing she would wake right up. I hope it passes. Try swaddling, and putting in swing or bouncy. Good luck I know it's tiring.
