SCH and deformed placenta...

posted 8th Jan
When I got pregnant with my last child, I had lots of bleeding. I went to get numbers for my HCG and they continued climbing, so the doc ordered an ultrasound. Baby was there, heartbeat, but they said I had 2 very large SCH and there was a 50/50 chance Id miscarry. I read the notes on my chart (its avail online for me to have access to) and they noted at later ultrasounds (obv I didnt miscarry) that the placenta was abnormal. When I delivered her, the midwife commented that the placenta had an extra "lobe" to it. She knew nothing of my earlier ultrasounds and was just a random midwife on call. Did anyone who had a SCH have an abnormal placenta also?

It means two lobes. So I'dassume that's what it was. lots of people with my condition have it (vasa previa) so I've heard it a lot. Idk what causes it. I think it's a fluke. They didn't say anything about the cord insertion in the placenta? You are very lucky.

You should. If u had a velamentous cord insertion or vasa previa that could have been deadly for baby. So you and your LO would have been very lucky.

I had an sch. I just delivered on Friday. Part of my placenta had also lifted. A midwife actually ended up delivering me at the hospital... Which was actually awesome by the way. Anyhow when my placenta came out I asked her how it looked. She said it looked great. She showed it to me too. She did show me an extra part to it... Like an extra ball... Maybe it was a lobe? She said she seems them in about 20% of pregnancies and its normal. And it very well could have been part of all my problems.

I read something about a subchorionic Cyst. Maybe it was that? Could it have been a vanishing twin? My friend had one planted on her placenta when she delivered her son. She didn't even know.

no i had 2 sch, i was having ultrasounds every 3 weeks for the first few months, if it was that I think they would have noted it in the records I have access to.

It's possible... My doctor wasn't sure if it was an sch or a vanishing twin. They thought more of an sch but you definitely never know!!

Yes I had lots of bleeding. About 4 bleeds with spotting in between until about 18 weeks. Everything appeared to have resolved by 21 weeks.
