I like to think that it helps people see the other side of things.

We do time outs and take things away (tv time, toys, etc). But if one of our kids are doing something that can harm themselves or others then yes they get a spanking.

A girl I work with has never spanked her child or used time out...her 4 year old daughter is out of control! I know spanking isn't the answer but I personally think she needs some sort of discipline. (most of u won't agree with me that's why I said it was MY opinion lol)

So because a parent doesn't spank, their kid isn't getting disciplined? Spanking has nothing to do with kids these days. We live in a different time. I didn't get my ass beat as a kid and nothing is wrong with me. What works for one child is not going to work for the other. My kids get plenty of discipline and I don't have to be violent with them in order to do it. They behave better than a lot of kids I know.

I don't think its just a decrease in spanking but a lack of discipline all together. I know that different methods work better for different kids.but some parents NEVER discipline and have very poorly behaved kids then act like spanking is sooooo bad. Well, I may whip their ass but they damn sure don't act like your kids! Lmao

Hey, I agree with you. A friend of mine never not once has spanked her 2 kids and OMG they are seriously wild! They always talk back, throw things, smack their own mother and everything! IMO yes, they need something (like spanking) in their lives!

..... I have never slapped DD's hand and I don't have anything in a high place. I don't understand why redirection is so hard.

I have layed a hand on ONE of my children ONE time. And that was when DS reached up to the stove. I smacked his hand away pretty hard. Not to punish him but to make sure he didn't burn himself.

I want to add that I am by no means anti-spanking. I have had to use it as a last resort with my oldest. She would get to a certain point where she needed a physical reminder that she was going too far. My stepson has gotten a whoopin' from my husband on rare occasions, too. We reserve corporal punishment for very serious offenses. I just don't believe that it should be used as a primary form of punishment and I certainly don't believe that younger generations are such brats because we are being taught to spare the rod. Bad seeds come from all walks of life, and I think you need to take your child's emotional strength into serious consideration before choosing to spank. Spanking an emotionally delicate child can be very damaging and counter productive.

I'm obviously not anti-spanking, but the idea that it is what is wrong with society is just silly.

I think many parents have just gotten lazy and think it's easier to give their child whatever it is they want then to actually deal with them or the situation. (I know a few like this) and again I agree with you I will be damned if my child(ren) act like wild animals in public or anywhere.

we had to do it 2 times cause we have a 46'' flat screen tv and after many many times of redercting we didnt want the tv to fall on her

There are other forms of discipline. I don't know if you know that or not.....
