is this your first DSLR?

I'm playing the camera decision game too. I had a Nikon D3000 and hated it. So now I'm going nuts trying to find one lol.

Yes, it will be my first one! I'm getting loads of stuff, like this:

and props, so I can have a home 'studio' haha. I've only ever played around with them, never owned one.

Are you getting that from amazon? The one I will get is from there.

I had my D3000 for a month and it was horrible in low light. I want the D7000 but it might be out of my price range right now if we end up getting a new vehicle.

I always go to snapsort.com for fun and compare cameras I'm looking at. According to that site, the D5100 is the winner

Yeah, I'll be buying off of Amazon. Waaay better prices than in the stores here. It's seriously like a $100+ savings. Also, the kit for the Nikon has loads more, for a lower price.

And holy crap at the list of advantages for the Nikon!

I'll probably have to go into the store and actually play around with both of them to figure out which one I like more.

Oh, I know! I was looking at several different sites and amazon was way cheaper.

I know, I love that site because it gives you a lot of specs you might not read in the description. One thing I really need in a camera is low noise at high ISO settings, since most of my pics will be taken indoors. So Id pick the nikon in that case probably. lol.

Yeah, same here. I'll have lights up and everything, but the noise in pictures kills me. I think I'll probably go with the Nikon.

I have d5100 and I love it. I think for the price you can get the 5100 at it's pretty hard to pass up. It was my first camera also and I hasn't been super hard to learn. I have been doing a ton of reading and practicing. I really wouldn't go out and buy much though until you've had the camera and learned it enough to know what you need or will benefit from. You could waste a ton of money for on reason.

I've worked with DSLR's before just have never owned one. It's just for fun, not for anything serious, you know? I would just love to be able to take great pictures of LO and not have to pay an arm and a leg.
