How much should she be eating?

posted 8th Jan
How much should my daughter be eating? She'll be 3 weeks Wednesday. I'm breast and formula feeding. She hardly ever seems full here lately, so I was just wondering what the norm was for around 3 weeks.

My daughter had about 2 ounces every hour and fifteen minutes. And stay at that until like 3 months lol every baby eats differently tho

Okay, she eats closer to 4 oz each time, sometimes 3. I thought that was a little much, but I'm glad she's not the only one lol But aww   She thinks it's play time right now lol She refuses to go back to sleep :/ I think she has her days and nights mixed up.

DS was eating 3-4 oz for each feeding around that time but it will vary with every baby. Just feed on demand. She will eat until she is satisfied. If you have any concerns if she is eating too much talk to your pedi whenever you see them next

Well first of all 3 weeks is a normal growth spurt time, so she may eat more & then cut back. Secondly, breastmilk & formula are different. So the ounces vary. In breastmilk they generally are increasing in ounces from birth to 4 weeks & top out at 4 weeks at around 25 oz per day, then the milk start to change to be fattier & higher in calories rather than continuing to increase in volume. Formula however must increase in ounce in order to increase in calories & fat. She will likely get used to the higher volume of ounces due to this & overeat breastmilk. That is often what happens, as her tummy gets trained to that size in order to feel full. But typically a breastfed baby who eats direct from the breast takes in about 2 oz every 2 hrs (based on averaging out prefeed & post feed weights. Bottlefeeding & mix feeding with supplements can alter than significantly though for already stated reasons.
