Terrified to sleep...

posted 8th Jan
My 4 month old DD has RSV. Her breathing is so bad it sounds like all the mucus is drowning her, when she cries she doesn't make a sound anymore, and last night I woke up to her choking on mucus and she stopped breathing while I was suctioning her.

The hospital said all of this was normal. That she'd get better before she got worse, etc. Well today she is even worse and I am now terrified to go to sleep. What if I don't wake up to her cries or choking because she can barely make a sound?

I am taking her to the pediatrician tomorrow ASAP because after an urgent care visit and 3 hospital visits in the span of a week I am still not happy with her care. They said the only thing I can do for her is suction her nose before nursing and before bed.... I just want to make her feel better, I don't want to be afraid to sleep... she sounds so bad..

Do you have a swing? If you do let her sleep in it it's elevated so it'll help with the mucous so they can breath.

Have you tried elevating her bed slightly? Vicks on the feet then socks. Humidifier in the room. There isnt much they can do for RSV since its viral.

Did they give her a nebulizer?
Are you using a humidifier/vaporizer for her room?
Vicks baby rub?

I would deff have her propped up tonight, too, to help drain some of that mucus.

Her pedi should be able to treat it better than the hospital can.

I think she needs a nebulizer, too.

She sleeps in a rock and play which is at an angle and we put a blanket under the cover to have her up more. We have a humidifier and I've done vicks with socks.

Nope, no nebulizer. They just said suctioning with the bulb suction thing is all I can do for her.

They even said the humidifier wont help.

If I were you, tonight, I would co sleep. Prop her up with your arm behind her. Your breathing should help her breathe, too, and you can keep a closer eye on her.

I'm off to try that... I'm so tired. I slept maybe 2 hours last night.

I would start dosing her with small amounts of sodium ascorbate..."vitamim c " powder. It helped my son get over his suspected whooping cough. It will help regrow the bronchial hairs and keep that mucous flowing instead of pooling in her lungs

Here is some info...just ignore the vaccine part and skip to the info on vitamin c

Dosage is 375mg per kg per 24 hours...I cut it into.fourths and gave throughout the day

Sorry Mama I.know how scary it is watching your baby choke like that  (((

Your welcome Mama! That vitamin c works amazing if you give it right...I would take some too to keep yourself healthy/alert as the care taker

I was takeing 10 g myself...take more if your sick too...and make sure its sodium ascorbate...not straight vitamin c ascorbic acid because its harder on their tummies...you should up the dose until her stool is loose then back off a bit to get her needed amount.

Hope things get easier soon!
