Baby Names

Because not everyone agrees that Bayleigh is the best spelling, for many different reasons, what are your opinions and why? And do you have any other suggestions for spellings?

Why can't you just spell it normally? Bailey.

Bailey. It just looks best. Why add all them extra letters?

"Bayleigh" looks like someone ate a bunch of letters and regurgitated them on the screen. I don't like Bailey as it is though, isn't a name that I think ages well or really sounds nice at all.

Bailey is a masculine name technically. Misspelling it doesn't make it feminine.

Leigh by itself is pronounced Lee. But tack on any other letters makes it pronounced like Lay. Look at Sleigh. S-lay. It works for pretty much every word out there with Leigh tacked on it.

If you must Bailey is much more appeasing to the eyes.

Also misspelling a name doesn't make it more unique. It is still the same name. Just spelled wrong. It will still be pronounced the same.

I've known several males with the name Bailey. It is a male name to me.

Bailey is traditionally a boys name. Not very tasteful for a girl. Especially when you can't spell it correctly.

I know most people on here won't agree with me, but I think unisex/masculine names are cute on girls sometimes...so I think Bailey is fine, but spell it the traditional way. "Bayleigh" is trendy and just won't age well. Plus, as the previous poster pointed out, I always think "-leigh" should be pronounced "lay".

The trend now seems to be changing i's to y's and "-ley" to "-leigh"...I think she'll encounter too many other girls with similar names. Hayleighs and Kayleighs and whatnot. It's stupid.

I think of Bailey has a feminine name. The extra letters are not for me. I would not like to see a boy named bailey or anything that ends in lee or leigh.?

I love the spelling Bayleigh. It is prettier than Bailey. Love it. I think spelling things the same as everyone else is boring, so I'm with you sister. It's just not some people's cup of tea, so there are going to be people who will be rude about it, just always remember at the end of the day, it's your baby and your choice.

But the way that spelling is trending, it WILL be the same as everybody else. Everybody likes to spell things "differently" nowadays. It's trendeigh.

That maybe true, but there are still fewer people in this world named "Bayleigh" than there are named "Bailey". Also, I know a 29 year old named "Baileigh" So spelling names differently isn't a 2012 "trend" it's just some peoples preference. Some people spell them the way they "should" be and some don't. That will never change.

I think intentional misspellings are cutesy and will look stupid on an adult. She will also constantly have to tell people how to spell her name because everyone will want to spell it how it SHOULD be spelled.
