re: Baby Names

posted 8th Jan
If she wants a unique name, she should pick a name that's not heard often...there are plenty of classic, beautiful names that you rarely hear. Taking a common name and butchering the spelling is not how you make your child's name unique.

Small price to pay or originality. I personally didn't think it was that hard taking 2 seconds out of my day to tell people how to spell my name. It was actually interesting seeing how people would spell my full name, it was never problematic. I guess I don't understand what the issue is with having to spell a name.

Thats kind of how I feel too. But apparently she "wont go anywhere in life" and things, all because of how I want to spell her name. I think it looks prettier and I've never met someone who spells it that way, so in my mind, its unique

Maybe that isn't what she was going for. Perhaps she doesnt want a rarely heard name, but just a different spelling.

Lol - Honey, people will always have something to say, I got told our names were "trashy hillbilly" names. And told that all of her resumes would be thrown out because of her trashy name. I agree 100% uniquely spelled names are completely different names to me. Ashley and Ashleigh are two different names to me. So I hear you, people can be ruthless, just go with what YOU like, there will be more people like you and I in this world that will appreciate the spelling.

You were the one who suggested perhaps she wanted something "unique" and "original". Bayleigh is neither.

She wanted opinions and reasons why. I gave mine, so I'm not sure what your issue is.

Do you think I have an issue? I see nothing wrong with you giving your opinion and or reasoning. I wasn't aware I was giving off the vibe that I had an issue, I just disagreed with your opinion. At any rate, no "issue" here, just giving my opinion and reasonings as well. All is well.

Impression
Based on our research, most people would imagine a person with the name Bayleigh to be: Pretty and intelligent woman

In one word, you might describe Bayleigh as a(n) "intelligent" person.

Honestly, Bayleigh reminds me Bayleaf... At least with Bailey, it does not.

Haha That website just has a random made up response for any name you type in...

Based on our research, most people would imagine a person with the name Bailey to be: A talented young chap

Deifintely doesn't mean anyone thinks Bayleigh would be intelligent. Actually I would assume the exact opposite.

Take it from someone with a traditional name spelled differently, DON'T DO IT! I hate my name for the specific reason. It aggravated me as a child and aggravates me still now (just better at dealing with it.)

As a kid I would see all those magnets, or Christmas ornaments, or little cards with name meaning on them or the little licence plate for bicycles and get so upset and jealous because they never had MY name on them. I mean they had Christie or Christy, and sometimes even Kristie but never Kristi. Even now people still spell my name wrong. I constantly have to correct employers on how to spell my name and had tax issues one year because one employer didn't correct it after entering it into the pay roll system improperly.

Its your child, we can't tell you what to do but IMAO I think its a horrid thing to do to a child.

I got that Bayleigh would be an officer name. An occupational name. As the meaning.

Honestly it's your kid. You can do what you want. But automatically when I see Bayleigh I say Bay-lay in my mind. Then I have to remind myself it is supposed to be Bailey.
