Babies first year?

posted 8th Jan
What's a good amount to try to save for a babies first year. I was thinking 12,000 as the minimum. But I did the baby calculator cost in Baby center and its total was a little under 6,000 we are going to save before we start trying again. We are also getting married before we try again. So this will probably be a 2 years saving plan. What's a realistic number?
TIA

I didn't know people tried to save for when they had a baby. We definitely didn't do any saving.

We spent about 3500 just getting ready for him. Not to mention little things along the way. Certainly hasn't been 12,000 though. However with diapers and formula I can see that being realistic.

We haven't been saving...   Scares the crap out of DH.
Then again, I never tried to have a baby before now either.

Maybe 3000? We only make 30k a year, I would be well past 40 if we tried to save that much

I'm a planner   we just want to make sure we have a good plan because I won't be working for that whole year. I know we would be able to make it no matter what but I want to live comfortably ya know.

I tend to over think things. Lol.   that sounds like a reasonable amount. I plan on breast feeding but I know that it doesn't always work that way. So I want to plan for the what ifs as well.

DH makes 28k a year. We didn't save to have the boys because, quite frankly, they were a surprise! But we have spent no where near 12k since they've been born. We really haven't had to spend any money on them at all, besides maybe 6-7 cans of formula. Now not even that.

It can be REALLY hard sometimes. My son didn't even latch for like 5 weeks and I had to pump exclusively. Took a good 3 months to get him to be a good breastfeeder.
