Maternity leave

posted 7th Jan
I get six weeks paid maternity leave. I also paid into a private short term disability leave, so I get an extra two weeks. Then I've accrued a week and a half of paid vacation so all in all I have a total of
9&1/2 weeks maternity leave.

I can take additional non paid time.

What did you all do?

I'm thinking of starting non paid two weeks prior to my due date. Then getting the 9$1/1 paid and possibly tacking on an additional two weeks unpaid if I want it at the end.

I worked right up until my due date with my oldest. That's what I'd do. Once the baby's here you will NEVER want to leave them.

I worked up until the day I went into labour - I was 42 weeks and some days.

I also only took 6 months of my 12 months of Mat Leave.

Friday is my last day of work and I can take up to 3 months unpaid. I'm taking all of it since from the time I found out I was expecting I have been putting money aside so I can stay out longer

I worked until I went into labor. Great idea. I would have hated to sit around twiddling my thumbs.

I went back 7 1/2 weeks pp. I could have gotten paid to stay home as long as I want really, as short term disability would have covered quite a long time, and my doc told me to tell him when I was ready to be cleared.

It was good to get back even though it's always a bit tough leaving your baby at first..... no matter their age.

I have never gone past 38 weeks in any of my pregnancies, so I shouldn't be twiddling my thumbs! If I have a little spare time I figure its a great opportunity to spend a little extra time with my husband and kids before Jonas arrives.

I am just concerned I'm selling myself short and that I may want to take more time off. With my last child I went back to work 6 months after she was born and that didn't feel like even close to enough. I've been very lucky with my schedule though. I work nights at the hospital and a lot of the time I'm just on call so I get paid without even having to leave home.
But getting back to work this last time was exhausting!
