my emergency c-section was because during labor my DD's heart rate dropped from 180 to 60, and was still dropping. it was the scariest thing i have ever been through

That happened to me with my first. He was sunny side up and he had head compression and the lowest i saw his heartrate drop was 40bpm. I got rushed to the OR with a nurse's hand up my vagina keeping pressure off his head until they could get him out.

My youngest's heart rate went in the other direction during labor. It hit over 200bpm. They have all sorts of theories about why it happened, but all of the tests were negative. They think we had an infection because my amniotic fluid was leaking. They thought maybe the cord was wrapped around his neck or there was something wrong with my placenta. No evidence of a cord issue. My placenta was detached when she went in there to get him though. Either way.. infection or placental abruption..., i was very lucky that day.

definitely! and we never got a direct answer as to why it happened either. my water had still not broken when I started pushing. it broke as I was pushing, and I heard the loud pop on the monitor. when that happened, they think she flipped and the cord might have gotten wrapped around her causing the drop. I was never told.
