No insurance... help!?!

posted 7th Jan
Hey all. I got my BFP on Saturday and went to the Health Department today to have it confirmed. I applied for state insurance and was denied because my husband apparently makes too much and exceeds their limit. Nothing is taken into consideration concerning taxes, bills, grocery costs, etc etc. Needless to say we don't have the kind of money needed to pay out of pocket the cost of prenatal care. I am a high risk pregnancy with PCOS and a Progesterone Deficiency. This is my 6th pregnancy and I have lost the previous 5. No prenatal care is no really an option for me. Has anyone been through this? Can you offer any suggestions? I live in Oklahoma. I am trying not to freak out but it's hard not to.

Only thing I can suggest is maybe setting up a payment plan with your OB and hospital.

They do take out your necessary bills. rent/mortgage, electric/gas; water, sewage, trash. You have to provide them with proof of those expenses.

You did try for Soonercare, right?

Are you able to get on insurance through your husbands work?

I assume your husband works full time if you two make too much....so why can't he provide insurance?

Have you called Anthem or any other large insurance company? Since July, there are a lot more affordable plans due to the whole Obamacare thing.

Also, planned parenthood does prenatal care for people without insurance.

This being said....how do you plan on giving your baby insurance? Babies need to go to the doctor a LOT.

Another option is hiring a midwife. In my experience they will allow you to pay in installments if you choose to. Congrats!

For starters. I did apply for Soonercare. I was not asked to provide proof of ANY expenses. It was not considered in the decision. Secondly, it is only HIS income and it's NOT that much. The laws in this state are ridiculous. Thirdly, he has only been working for this company for two months. His own insurance doesn't kick in for another month. I cannot be added now because the insurance company his employer uses considers pregnancy to be a "pre-exisisting condition" and is not covered. Fourth, our child WILL be covered under his plan IF I am even able to carry full term. I was advised to appeal the decision and have sent a few emails and done some research. I'm sure we will figure it out eventually. Thanks for all of your input! I appreciate it.

This website gives you the guidelines. If you call above it for yearly then you won't be able to get SoonerCare. But if you call below you should be able to appeal. Also they don't take into account your expenses. That sucks bad.

My first I was 17 and my parents ins didn't cover my pregnancy and the county couldn't help because my parents made too much so I had a high risk pregnancy (blood pressure and other issues) all out of pocket cost. I finally got him paid off at 11 years old.
