Chore Charts

posted 7th Jan
My daughter is 6 and I've been thinking of making a chore chart for her. One sticker per chore she does without me having to remind her. Then at the end of the week she'll get a small treat/prize, depending on the number of stickers she has.

Stuff like putting her toys away at the end of the day, brushing her teeth before bed, putting her dirty dishes on the counter, garbage in the bin, dirty clothes in the hamper, clean clothes put away neatly, mitts/hats/etc put away properly (not tossed on the floor as she currently does).

How many chores per day would you say is too many for her age? Should I remove or add anything to that list?

Thanks!

I think that seems like a good list. You don't want to overwhelm her. Maybe reward her with extra stickers if she goes out of her way to help you with something that isn't on her chore list.

Pshhhh, my girls are 4 and have been doing that basic stuff since about 2 (with assistance of course).

I do not give rewards for completed chores. they are expected and that is that. I do give a slight reward for "above and beyond" stuff.

Go to www.freeprintablebehaviorcharts.com

You can get some great chore/ behavior charts there.

I have to remind her constantly to do these things, even though she knows it's all expected of her, and has been for years.

I figure starting a chart would help motivate her so then eventually I can take something off and it'd become habit so she'll just do it.

I don't know. At this point I'm not sure what else to do. Reminding her 5 times to do one thing is getting very tiring.

My daughter is 3, and has been doing those things without question for quite somet time now. She is 6, she needs, inch more responsibility! Chores should be, setting the table, collecting the trash from the smaller trash cans, unloading part of the dishwasher, cleaning her bathroom (at least wiping it down), etc... My step son is 6, he required to do al these things and some more andat the end of the week he gets $3, which go into his piggy bank.

If they have a spot on their behavior chart without a star (we are working on no baby talking and no tantrum type things) for the day, they give me one of their toys and I throw it away. The positive reinforcement is them keeping their things and the sticker. The consequence is them losing a privlege and it is a toy. They don't care about TV or anything like that. Christmas was just here. All the toys are exciting and new. I do keep in mind their age. If they have one small fit, they still get their star. If it is several or it lasts forever, nope.
