There's a huge difference between an uncle and mother :/ my lo wouldn't notice his uncle in jail either but he sure as hell would notice if I was gone for a year.

That is what I meant.,if you as a mother can prevent your child from been heartbroken. I would!

That's nice. That could have changed recently, my mom has been out of jail and prison for years now...like 15 or so. She was only in jail for a short amount of time before going to prison though, so I was happy when we got to really visit with her. They even had someone there who took Polaroid pictures for us. She'd get to keep one copy, and we'd get to keep one copy...

I'm speaking in part by their sense of time.

But my nephew and my DH were inseparable. Together on a daily basis. Occasionally, he'd ask where he was, but most times....He didn't think of him. Obviously, an uncle is different than a mother. But....a 3 year old isn't going to notice as much as a 5 or 6 year old is going to.

This! If that was me I wouldnt want my child seen me in jail then when it time to leave be both in tears and watching my child not want to leave me. No no I rather not have my child go through that or see that.

With good behavior it can be less than a year. See how things go and see how much time are they really going to give you and wait a while before you start bringing your son to visit you in jail.

Hun, I would just be honest with him, and tell him the truth...even if he doesn't really understand it. At least that is what I would do if I was in your situation.

Either way, good luck hun!

You're lucky that 3 years is the maximum sentence they gave you. I have heard of people getting a lot more than that for importing drugs.

You're welcome hun.   I hope you end up serving less time so that you can be re-united with your son sooner.

I would be honest. Simple terms, but honest.

Also, before you leave make him a recording of you reading some books to him so he will have that while you are gone.
