Do you think I'm being over protective?

posted 7th Jan
My kids & have been staying in because the flu and strep throat is going around bad here. I even cancelled my sons 3rd birthday party because I scared to get it (mother in law, aunt, cousins, & most of my friends have had the flu or been directly exposed) We decided that we would just celebrate with our immediate family separately. Well this pissed my in laws off. My MIL just texted and she wants to take my son to a skating party. He cant skate so he will be playing on the jumpers that those snotty little kids have been all over. I told her they can come spend the night with her and we will do something little for him on Saturday but I would rather her not take the kids to the party. I know they think I'm just being a bitch because I have never been like this before but I'm truly concerned about them getting sick. If my bf gets it we will be screwed cause he can't miss work. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and just got to where I can eat better. I have already lost 12 pounds since the start of my pregnancy due to lack of appetite and a little morning sickness here and there. Do you ladies think I'm going overboard?

No I would've done the same thing. The smurf going around this year is VILE and horrible to get over, I would avoid it like it's the plague since that is what it seems like it is! ;)

yes, kids get sick. It actually helps build their immunity so yeah it sucks and you can try to keep things clean and what not but don't stop living your life because of germs.

Honestly, I think you are overreacting. Children get sick NO MATTER what you try to do about it. One way or another, you all will most likely get it.

ehh...you can't live in your house forever. Kids get sick.

I don't usually fault parents for being over protective though.

I think it's a bit overboard personally. However, your point about your SO getting sick and the work situation is legitimate. Other than that, I'm a big believer in "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I wouldn't take my kids deliberately around someone with strep, but I wouldn't keep them home out of fear of it spreading in a generic setting.

Yes. Kids get sick, it happens. My twins just had strep from God knows where, and I'm 34 weeks and didn't catch it. They got antibiotics and moved on.

We still go places and do things but we just carry hand Sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to wipe down the things like shopping carts and tables if we go out to eat.

Making them stay in a house 24/7 isn't benefiting them. They need to be exposed to germs to build immunity.

So yes, I think you're being over-protective not letting them AT LEAST go to that other party.

You're cancelling your child's party b/c you're afraid to get sick??? That's borderline crazy......illness helps boost your immune system, avoiding colds isn't really a good thing.

Yes we do. We just carry hand Sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to wipe down the things like shopping carts and tables if we go out to eat. But if my bf is home one of us stays with them at home if we have to go to Walmart.
