VA Family Court and Custody

What is the process like in VA once you file for custody?

Does VA favor one or the other parent, or does it try to keep both biological parents involved (unless one is proven to be unfit, of course)?

The judge I got says he likes to see both parents involved. It was super easy to go get joint custody. We were in and out

well my situation was a little different because BD lives in oregon
but i showed up to court and even with PLENTY of forewarning and a summons he didnt so i was granted custody immediately
however generally they will try to keep both parents involved unless one parent is deemed unfit
usually a guardian adlitem will come in and make sure the kids environment is safe and secure and depending on whether the parents are battling for custody or can make a mutual agreement it will really be an easy quick process.
