Started it at 3 months for my sons reflux. If he didn't have reflux I wouldn't have used rice cereal. He eats oatmeal in the mornings now. Really helps.
But they say no solids before at least 4 months but my suggestion is do what your pediatrician suggests. Mine says 4 months but my cousins pediatrician says 6.

Breastmilk or formula should be providing all the iron and nutrients an infant needs. Babies don't really need any solid foods until after a year.

Oh wow I though it did something didn't know there was no purpose really unless it was needed for some babies like some of you said. Yeah I won't be giving her it then if its pointless. So what about oatmeal? When do you/could you give them it and is that of any nutrition or pointless also?

Wow I had numerous people try to tell me to give her it to make her sleep but I never heard of babies taking it at only a few weeks old so I never did. I also constantly forget to ask the Dr what I was curious to know every time I go that's why I usually ask here then I try to remember to ask the Dr.

It doesn't help babies sleep. It has never changed my sons sleeping pattern.

I use to give my daughter oatmeal for breakfast with pureed fruits. She was much older though, I think about 7 or 8 months. By the time she was 9 months, she was starting table foods. It took us about 1.5-2 months to get through all of the single flavor fruits and veggies.

When introducing solids, it should be a very slow process. One single veggie/fruit (which ever you decide to start first) a day, spacing out new flavors 3-5 days to watch for allergies.

I just started and she is three months, milk wasn't keeping her full at night so I give half a tablespoon before bed and she sleeps all night.

The hog wash is to give it at 6 months and not before that. You'll hear others even say it has no nutritional value, blah, blah, blah. I never listened. Chris wasn't big on rice so we did oatmeal. I put it in his bottle beginning at two months to help with reflux since doctor ordered, but would have done it anyways. It helped him sleep better. It never "choked" him and never harmed him or made him fat or anything else. It did good IMO. Then, at five months we began giving him jars of fruits and vegetables. We skipped stage 1 and began with stage 2 jars. Anyways, to each their own opinion, but that's my view points on it all. Doctors suggest 4-6 months unless reflux happens, and then sometimes they suggest rice/oatmeal sooner.

Not all babies sleep a long time. That's part of how they grow. Don't mess it up by trying to fill her tummy with empty calories. Oatmeal is empty as well. Just do regular foods at 6+ mos.
