Rapist/Pedophile Supporters.....
posted 7th Jan
With the recent news of the High School Rape and the events surrounding it I have been wondering about unconditional support of "idols". From my understanding the members of the High School "Rape Crew" are part of the popular High School sports teams and apparently they are quite idolised by the town, bring in money, etc so there appears to have been a lot of people who went to quite some lengths to cover up and protect them. Even now people seem to be quite outspoken that the blame lies with the girl and a general attitude that these men are untouchable. We also have a situation in the UK where last month lead singer Ian Watkins of the rock band Lost Prophets was arrested and charged with child sex offences. Lost Prophets have been around for approx 12 years and in their hey day were quite popular, topping the UK Album charts, headlining major festivals, selling out massive tours, etc. I admittedly have went to see them a few times myself. Their popularity has fallen but they are still going and have a loyal following. Ian Watkins originally appeared in court late Dec charged with conspiracy to rape a 1 year old child, sexually abusing another 2 toddlers and making, distributing, possession of extreme animal and child pornography along with 20 year old and 24 year old females (Mothers of the children and believed to be life long fans of the band obsessed with Ian Watkins). All 3 were refused bail with a date set again 31st Dec where they were again refused bail with a further court date set for March. (I'm not sure about the legal system anywhere else but but to refuse bail you need to have substantial and extremely strong evidence.) With all that fans have came out in force showing unconditional support, some stating they don't care if he has done it they still love and support them, some going as far as to make statements such as they wish they were the children.
Do you think we have unfortunately encouraged a generation so obsessed with worshipping "idols" and "celebrity" they can get away with almost anything? How did we get here and how can people really think this attitude is ok?

People are always going to be sick. You can tell that from the comments the fans made. I loved that band in highschool and had a major crush on the lead singer, it makes me feel gross now! I get that the rest of the band had nothing to do with it and they should be supported but without supporting the lead singer!

As someone who has been raped/molested it disgusts me and I don't believe people like that should be allowed to live in the general population. They are just as bad as the rapists themselves.

They want Smurfing stringing up along with the sick, stupid individuals committing these disgusting cruel acts. The world wouldn't miss scum like them.

Yeah me too. We loved all that kind of music back then and I loved their first few albums, I was obsessed with Watkins and we all went to see them a lot. The whole "Nu-Metal Era", honestly my friends DH and I were all shocked, it was all over Facebook and on the radio all day.... It just sickens me, it sickens me fans are showing unconditional support and it sickens me the Mothers involved seem to have willingly just given up their children to him just because they were so obsessed with him. Then this High School rape situation, I can't fathom how people can show these scum unconditional support.

Yes I strongly agree that the people in agreement and support of these acts are as dangerous as the people committing the acts.

I couldn't get my head around it either. Definitely very shocking. And incredibly disturbing to think about. :-( poor kids.

I have no idea and can't wrap my mind over how ppl can be so disgusting. This world is so backwards. My brothers highschool gf got raped by the star football player, who already had a rep of being forceful with his gf's and when she spoke up about it everybody supported him and trashed her! It was horrible, she had to switch schools and lost all her friends. Her family had money and everyone said "she cried rape so she could sue him and be even more of a snob!" She didn't even want to press charges but the nurse at the hospiti convinced her. Ppl are just sick.

Because I have been sexually abused, it absolutely breaks my heart when people are supportive of those who do this. If you have never been in that position, you cannot understand how hard it is, how long it stays with you, the things that happen long after the actual act of rape is committed.
It really does make me sick, though. Especially those comments made by the fans. It's disrespectful to that child, and every woman who's ever suffered rape.
