Ladies with PCOS...

posted 6th Jan
I got diagnosed with PCOS in October, and my OB just put me on Ortho tri-cyclen LO birth control pills to help regulate my cycle.
I started on the 13th in November and December, and now this month I started on the 3rd, and it seems to be back to really heavy bleeding, with horrible cramps, and really bad ovary pains.
I don't think the BC is working anymore. I go back to see her later this month, and just wanted to know if there was anything I could suggest being put on that's helped you ladies?
I'm also overweight, and she said that losing weight could help reverse the PCOS? I've heard metformin works good for that as well. Should I ask her about that also?
TIA<3

I took straight progesterone pills for a while and it didn't work. But now they put me on bc Natazia and I got my period like that. It works when it comes to the pain as well. I was diagnosed with pcos in 08 so I am so happy to finally have some relief!

I'm on Ortho-Cyclen, but they have me taking it so that I do not have periods, as I have no desire for another child any time soon. When I did have periods though, they weren't heavy, but I did have significant cramping. Have you had your thyroid checked out? Weight can be a factor in PCOS, but PCOS can also cause problems losing weigh.

Hm. I've still been getting a period every month, but this one just seems worse.
And no, they never did any blood work other than at the ER when I went. They only did ultrasounds. I'll ask her about that as well.
And damn. ): I really need to take this weight off! Still haven't lost any since DD was born 17 months ago.

Metformin could help but with normal blood sugar levels I don't know if they would give it to you. It hindered my weight loss (at least we think it did, can't prove it).

I was never able to because of my thyroid. Slowly I got my thyroid under control and now I'm losing weight and the symptoms of the PCOS are dwindling.
