3 year old brushing teeth

posted 6th Jan
When did you start using regular kids toothpaste for your child instead of toddler toothpaste?

Also, when did your child get better at doing it by themselves? My son is great about letting me help him but he isn't very good at spitting it out so I have to make sure he is leaned all the way over the sink so it just pours out of his mouth while I help him brush.

Our pedi dentist said at 2 you are supposed to. Btw which I didnt know until last month. SEriously though they said you just put a smear of it over the bristles and then help them brush.

He can spit but just needs constant reminders. He doesn't actually swallow any of it because I assist him the entire time but he's just not that good at it yet on his own, lol.

DS is 7 and still prefers children's toothpaste. We use "kids" paste not "toddlers" paste. I still have to supervise him to make sure he gets everything good enough

I use age appropriate. There's no need to use adult toothpaste until 12... The toothpaste brand we use has a 0-1 option, 1-3 option, 4-7 option and 7-12 option then adult.

We use 1-3 as she's 3.5

Okay good, that's what I'm doing. Thanks! I just realized as I was brushing his teeth that I didn't ask the dentist, but that they gave me the kids stuff so I assume thats what they want him to use.

The toddler tooth paste doesn't really have anything in it so I don't think it's really doing the job. I mean I know the brushing is the actual important part of it, but the toddler stuff isn't doing much at all.

yea then he somehow broke a tooth all the way up to the gum line so he has to have a root canal. Waiting to get into the hospital so he can be put under so he won't be traumatized

Ouch   My son had to have a natal tooth removed (when you are born with it) and he was awake the whole time. Fortunately he was only about 7 months old, he would literally turn into the Hulk if that happened now.
