Blood sugar not going down...

posted 6th Jan
I really haven't had much to eat all day. Took my insulin like I should. I took 45 units of Lantus at 8 its now 9:30 and it's STILL going up, I don't know what to think/do. It's really high.

How high? Do you have other insulin?

Unless it's different there, my husbands Lantus is his long lasting insulin. It can take hours to take effect and then lasts for 24 hours. He also has novarapid which takes effect in 15 minutes.

I know you just switched to this one. Do you think it may be it isn't working right with your body?

I honestly just think it's best to contct your health provider they may just need to give you a short acting insulin. ( I would have thought they would give both like they have done with me).

I think you might want to call someone actually. I know with my husbands, when he up'd his lantus we had to watch him at night for a while because he would drop to low while sleeping until we got a good dosage for him.

Do you not have a fast acting insulin?

I have an appt tomorrow. I am going to stay up for a bit to make sure it goes down, if it goes too low my body will wake me up. I'm not sure but my aunt said lantus is long acting so it may take some time for it to actually drop. I think they may need to add a short acting one. They just switched it and for some reason I completely forgot I don't have the fast acting to make it go down fast like it should. My aunt said to watch it and then just tell them tomorrow.

For example: This is one day of my blood sugars:
wake up 85
after breakfast 119
after lunch 160
after dinner 173
before bed 152.

I take 45 units in the am and in the pm.

It was a thought. I don't know anything about diabetes or at least very little. I hope it goes down

Thanks. You would think after 5 years of having this I would know everything but they are still very erratic no matter what I do. I guess I just don't understand. My pancreas has no idea how to handle itself I have Chronic Pancreatitis as well so that doesn't help.
