4 year old w/ bumpy skin all over.

posted 6th Jan
My 4 year old has developed bumps on his skin. It's almost like goosebumps, but they are always there and he's not cold. His skin is most definately drier than it used to be, and he's complaining that certain areas are itchy constantly. He had his 4 year checkup right before Christmas and I told her about it hoping she would refill his hydrocortisone cream, but no. She said maybe it's eczema(sp) and some lotion will help. Well, he's mixed with black and white...he needs lotion everyday ANYWAY. We were using Vaseline something or other with cocoa or shea butter for a while, and then his skin changed. The doctor recommended Eucerin, so I bought some. It's not helping and he's still constantly itchy. What can I do? Should I just try to find a dermatologist for him? Maybe baby oil instead of lotion? I don't have eczema, so I'm lost.

For eczema you normally need steroid cream. It's it just dry though try putting lanolin on him(yes the dry/cracked nipple stuff)

Sounds exactly what I been going threw with my daughter since she was one it gets real bad when the wether changes. What we found helps GREAT is aveeno baby soap when she gets bathed and rinsing her off with clean water she hasn't been sitting in and applying cetaphil lotion 3 times a day. Also when her skin got real itchy for her in certain spots u can buy hydrocortisone over the counter n put a thin layer of that on the irritated area.

Sounds like it.

What I was told, and what works with LO, is staying away from scented/regular soap. We use Aveeno for Sensitive skin ((the creamy one.))

After his bath, I don't dry him off at all. I slather him in Aveeno Eczema Lotion and after I rubbed that in good, I put this stuff on him.

could be keratosis too. DD and I both have it. Mine is itchy in the winter and when the weather changes. She doesn't complain about here much. We just use lots of lotion and exfoliate in the shower really well. It helps.

This! Plus they have an oatmeal bath for kids that works wonders. I normally follow that up with the aveeno eczema lotion. Fortunately my oldest pretty much grew out of it, but my younger 2 are having issues now. Everyone gets lotioned up after bath time.

Johnsons is very bad for the skin. Too much alcohol.

We had issues with the shea and cocoa butter oil bath wash too. It actually irritated things horribly. Unscented is the way to go.

I use Aveeno products on DS, they're the best. IMO.

I have eczema and I use aveeno (the kind with Shea butter and oatmeal). Lately because I have so much of it around I've been using baby lotion. It works enough to make the dry patchy parts not turn into a full on plague looking gross rash that crack and bleeds.
