What chores does your 4-5 year old complete?
posted 6th Jan
I realize I have not given my child any responsibility. She has started to take on personal chores on her own but I need to know what chores she can do around the house besides picking up her own toys. Does your child do any chores? Do they get rewarded or are these things that are expected of them for being a member of the family? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

She sets the table, dusts, vacuums her room, picks up her toys, and helps with the mopping. She's 5 years old. She does get rewarded in a sticker chart and when she has so many stickers, we take her to the firing range (if she didn't like the range, we would do allowance).

He picks up his toys, helps with dishes, helps me cook. Not much.

He's 6 but nothing at all.
Apart from putting his washing in the laundry. No rewards.

What age did you start all of the chores?
My husband and I have been talking and he thinks her major chores should be feeding the dogs.

She started dusting and cleaning her room at 2 years old.
She feeds her rats, but that's not really a chore. They are in her room and need to be fed and the cage needs to be cleaned if she wants them in there!

Mine are 3 and 5.
They help me make their beds, pick up toys, put laundry in appropriate baskets, clear their plates ( good in trash, played in sink) they sometime help me sweep ( hold the dust pan)
No rewards.

DD is 6 yrs old. She doesn't have many chores. She just needs to make sure her room is picked up. If I ask her to help with something she does it.
No rewards. Maybe when she is older, but for now, it isn't needed IMO.

I get a lot of crap from people (mostly family members) because I don't give my children chores.....I know how much I hated them when I was younger....lol. And DH was raised where he didn't have to do chores. But I do occasionally ask them to clean their room when needed, or help me pick up a little and they will help, and I do reward them when they do it. I don't know, I guess I look at it differently than many others do...I look at it as they are children and should be carefree (to an extent...lol). I know people who have their kids do EVERYTHING....like their kids come home from school, have to do their homework, then dinner then chores and bed...and they don't have any play time...that drives me crazy. But I am a SAHM, so I don't mind doing everything...to me it's my job.

My daughters are 4 and 2. They have to clean their room everday. The 4yr old has to take care of the dog and cat (feed and water). She does the normal daily stuff put her dishes in the sink, throw trash away, put her clothes in the laundry.
She usually helps with anything we are doing. she will vacuum. However we use a chore chart on her Nabi 2 tablet. when she collects coins she gets to buy games on her tablet.
My 2 yr old does the same things, or we are trying to get her to do the same things.

A doesn't do to much. He has to pick up all the toys at night and he puts his dirty clothes down the shoot. When we have calves he helps with measuring the milk and washing the pales out, but in the winter he's kind of a bum. I'm to picky to have him dust or anything.

My five year is responsible for picking up after himself (toys away, clothes in the hamper, dishes in the sink).
I ask him to do various other things, like helping pick up after his sister, getting
his school bag packed, or getting things for me out of the garage...
some are expected; some he earns money for.
All money he earns is split between savings, tithing, and spending.
