re: SIDS

There isn't anything you can do. You can take every precaution, but if your baby is going to die of SIDS then that's it.

Is that the monitor that detects movement? How much is it?

Yes, they range from 200-400$. I have a snuza that LO wears on his diaper to monitor his breathing, my LO has sleep apnea at 5 months

It's pretty pricy, but I love it.
It's a baby monitor with the sensor pad for under the mattress and it detects when thebaby has stopped breathing.

Yep. Oh jeeze, I can't remember. I bought it when I was pregnant with her, early in my pregnancy. She's now 19 months.
It was around 200. Maybe a little more?
It's better then all the other ones on the market.

It was. I actually just stopped using it since she's in a big girl bed now. I check on her so many times throughout the night.
I am using it when DS arrives though! It will be in his bassinet for sure!

Hmm I kinda want to get it. DD is 2 weeks old and I will get out of bed like 5 times to make sure she is still breathing before I will go to sleep myself. The thought of sids scares me so much

Look into it. If she's in a crib and you do end up getting one, you need to have a wooden slate that fits to the crib under the mattress that the monitor is on. So wooden slate, monitor, mattress. If she's in a bassinet then there is no need for the wood. If she in a pack and play, it doesn't work that well. That's why DD was never in hers for sleeping, only playing and when she was fully awake. The pack and play made it go off all the time. We even tried the wooden slate for under its mattress. I guess it was just too flimsy, like the bottom part on the pack and play.
It's a good investment.

Ive heard of people as old as 20 dying from sds. Some of the precautions are just common sense. Like not smoking around the baby, bumpers etc. Once they get to a certain age and can move about themselves you cant stop them sleeping on their tummy. Its difficult because if it happens it doesn't matter if you took all the precautions you would probably still blame yourself. I cant even imagine how awful it must be but you musnt let your fear take over because youll drive yourself mad and never get any sleep.

SIDS can't happen to anyone over the age of 12 months
Though really, anyone can drop dead at any second without a real reason. They just call it different things cause SIDS is only for infants

This is one thing I wouldn't buy second hand. Just incase something is wrong with the sensor pad. I'd want a brand new working one.
