Pregnant in the USA and clueless.

posted 6th Jan
In many ways I feel like I am pregnant for the first time. This is my first experience dealing with the US medical system for pregnancy. And I'm hoping for a VBAC so if I actually go thru a labor and contractions that will be new to me too.

I had my first appt about 7wks5days into it. There was already a heartbeat and she did an ultrasound, so I got to see baby, or shrimp, I say shrimp. She did a pap smear, took blood. She said she wanted to see me in two weeks to check the heartbeat again. Because of the holidays and stuff I am going tomorrow I am now 10wks. I think she said after this appt it will be every 4wks then in 3rd trimester more often. In Germany it was about the same frequency. What happens during a 10 wk appt or something around there? The shrimp wouldn't have changed much, probably go over test results from last time. Then I won't be getting another until 14 wks probably.

She probably just wants to make sure the heartbeat has stayed nice and strong since it was early last time?

For the next several appointments they will check your weight, vitals and listen to baby heart rate. I think my appointments lasted ten mins. Then another ultrasound around 20weeks

She mentioned something about heart rate and making sure. You're probably right.

They make you pee on a stick (or in a cup), check heartbeat, check BP, go over your questions and concerns, and thats about it I think.
Edit: And check your weight lol.

Lol I think my longest appointment was 10 minutes max. The way my OB does is it is at 26 weeks it switches to every 2 weeks, then at 36 weeks it switches to everyweek untill you deliver.
