DS is 3 and......

Still sleeps in his crib. We have tried a toddler bed, and he screams bloody murder and wont go near it. He loves his crib. Doesnt even try to climb out. Any other mamas have a toddler that still likes to sleep in their crib? or is mine the only one? i dont know if this makes a difference, but he is autistic

Keep him in the cib untill he's ready, I think Autisum has alot to do with it as you should know autistic children are not good with changes.

Most of my friends transitioned their kids at like 16 months. My son is 17 months and I don't plan on doing it any time soon. He has never tried to climb out and never even stands up in it. He just sleeps so well in it that I don't wanna mess it up! Lol

As long as he's within the weight limits and isn't trying to climb out I see no issue with it. You could try one if those bed tents that can go over the bed, that makes make him feel more cozy. the problem is i dont know the weight limits of the crib. it was given to us by my sister. are all crib weight limits about the same?

My son was 2.5 when we switched him. I would have kept him in there as long as possible but he got too big for it.

You know I'm not sure? Do you know the brand or model if the crib? Sometimes they have stickers on the bottom that tell you make/model. Maybe you can find some identifying info nd google the weight limit?
It doesn't help at all but I lay with my son in his converted to a toddler bed crib all the time, I weigh 115 and he's 23lbs... so far so good. haha

It is most likely the confinement of it and the routine. My son (with autism) was moved into a regular bed by 13 months because he was the opposite - could NOT stand the confinment of the crib.

You need to slowly transistion. I would start by putting another bed in his room (leaving the crib where it is). If you have room and can find one cheap enough, the twin size race car beds are good because you can put the bed on the lowest level and the car part comes up a good foot around the bed. A bed tent is another great idea, as is lots of pillows he can cuddle into. Just leave the bed there, letting him see it and explore it during the day. Then start with trying to get him to lay down in it for naps (if he does).

my son was in his crib until he was 3 years, 2 months. he loved his crib, as well... but the day he climbed out he got a twin size bed. he didn't really have an issue transitioning though, i bought a bed rail for it and made sure he knew he couldn't fall out, and just kept telling him what a big boy he was and how i was proud of him. there were days he would ask for his crib back and tell me that he's not a big boy, but i just reassured him. good luck!
