I could be angry.

It's 5:30 am and for the past 3hrs I've been threatened, cussed at, been thrown at various food and non-food items, called every name in the book, had my house trashed. I could be angry but I'm not.

You see I care for my brother who has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, cognitive delays and mental illness. All of these things caused by a birth "accident" that severely damaged basically every part of his brain. And I guess you could say I'd have the right to be angry, but I'm not.

There's some nights like this that I stay up past the time his meds take to kick in and get him to sleep and I just in my mind rage against that smurf doctor who scrambled my brothers brain so bad that he he doesn't know what is real and what is not. Sometimes I lay awake wondering how many times in the past 28yrs he's thought if that little boy he royally smurfed up. I wonder if he's even thought about him since he settled the suit and his insurance had to pay out a couple mil to keep us quiet. I wonder how many unaware and trusting people have since gone to him for care as he still works in this city.

But tonight I lay awake crying, grieving for the brother I'll never have and the one I've got, the childhood I lost, the normal life he'll never have. I could be angry but right now I'm just too sad.

He's extremely lucky to have a family with you in it.
Was there something specific that caused his CP, if you don't mind me asking?
SO's sister also has CP caused by a 'birth accident', but what really happened was that someone smurfed up, trying to manually flip her out of breech position at 39 weeks. She was born via c-section within minutes, and is lucky to be alive at all.

I wish I had some amazing advice for you, but all I can say is I'm sorry you're going through this.

Thank you. And yes, he had meconium staining, he was born alive. The dr should have suctioned him and delayed clamping the cord. Instead he cut the cord, didnt suction, administered a med that was intended to jump start the hearts of preemies, but had been being used off the label for all babies in distress. The med had also been recalled so it was not allowed under any circumstance. The meds caused my brother to code, he was recusitated after several mins. Then the dr tried to cover up his actions by omitting info and lying in the med reports. My brother spent 6wks in picu, after he came home the attending birth nurse showed up at our door and hold my mom what happened. She was the only one willing to do the right thing, she had gone to the higher ups in the hospital and they too tried to cover it up.

My SO's sister also has cp.

That is horrifying. Even though it doesn't change what happened, I hope he had to pay. I hope he lost his license and was never able to treat another precious person with such negligence.

Unfortunately he's still in practice, I was 3 when he was born and 6 when they went yo court so I don't know if his license even shows what happened because my parents settled out of court and part if the settlement is that they arent allowed to talk about him or his involvement. I wish I could shout to the world who did this and warn everyone but I think my mom could get in trouble for it. I'd love to send tgat bastard a strkngly worded letter but again settlement forbids contact. The hospital has since been closed down, they also settled out of court.
