Breast feeding and BC

So my obgyn prescribed me the patch knowing I am bf, I did my first cycle and was reading through the instructions to prove something to my SO, anyway it said that I shouldn't take it while bf basically unless I consulted my physician. Also that it's passed to the baby and could cause jaundice   I'm not starting the second cycle but any experience or knowledge that could be helpful? Like if anyone else is on the patch and bf? Or what bc is ok to breastfeeding on?

I breastfed with the mini pill and implanon. Anything without estrogen is ok from what I understand

I'm on the mini pill and EBF. Also, you could get mirena while bfing...

If you're uncomfortable taking it and are worried it might harm your baby, just talk to the doctor. The pill is pretty good if you remember to take it everyday(which I can't LOL)

I have a friend who was accidentally prescribed the regular pill instead of the mini pill when he daughter was born and her daughter ended up having an estrogen buildup on her chest because she was getting too much estrogen from the mom. I would definitely call your doctor

I'd definitely call. just to be sure and get peace of mind, if nothing else=)

You shouldn't be on the patch. That will most like severely harm your supply. You are not supposed to be on estrogen based birth control for that reason. Even if it hasn't dried you up yet, staying on it will most likely. I am not sure hwy your Dr woudl prescribe that to a nursing mom. Is is not considered a breastfeeding friendly option.

That's what I thought! Ugh I'm trying so hard to do what's best for him and this medical community seems to just smurf me!!!! Ill just save my next few refills and use em when I'm not bf

I am sorry momma. You need the mini pill if you want a hormonal BC.

I think we are just gonna do condoms. Smurf bc, this is why I wasn't even on it for the last 3 years. It smurfs with your body too much

Well if you are itnerested, you can try out FAM. I use it & love it. We do use condoms during "fertile days" if we want, but other than that, we don't use anything & I used it for 7 yrs before TTC, 2 yrs between kids & the almost 3 yrs since my youngest was born, with NO mess ups. ;)
