If anyone is awake/credit ?

posted 6th Jan
I applied for a secured credit card through Capital One, you know the credit cards for the dumbasses who smurfed up their credit?

Well it's a small limit, $200, I pay off my balance in full every month. I've noticed a 30 point increase in the 2 months that I've had it and although my credit score is still something to be ashamed of, I'll take it. But, I never really watch my spending. I mean that in the sense that I don't keep it under 30% even though I always pay it off in full. I never spend money that I do not already have available so I never thought there was much reason to care about my balance. Well after doing some research I've found that it's best to keep your balance under 30%, preferably 10% even if you pay your balance in full each month.

So for those of you who pay off your balances in full each month what do you keep your spending limit at? You can just talk percentages if you do not feel comfortable saying the dollar amount. And do you monitor your credit? If so, how much of a score increase have you noticed? I guess this question is geared more towards those with poor or so-so credit since I've gathered that those with excellent credit scores aren't going to see a major jump in their score.

I have a $500 credit card that I keep $50 balance on it. I don't monitor my credit much but it has improved in the past couple of months. I did just pay off my last vehicle though which could've been a big deal.

Not really. Do you use CreditKarma? If you don't you should sign up, it's free. It will tell you your score and will tell you what cards you're likely to get approved for. That's how I stumbled upon the Cap1 card. It is secured though so you have to make a deposit. The deposit will vary depending on your credit.

Well that's good to hear. I think that is what I am going to do, just keep my balance at $20. I can't really see the harm that it would do. And congrats on paying your car off. DH and I were so close to owning ours outright until he wrecked it, now we're back into another loan.
