Rock and Play Sleeper

posted 6th Jan
My daughter won't sleep in anything but her rock and play sleeper by fisher price for the last 3 months.. The first 2 months she was in my bed or bassinet and would only nap in the sleeper. But I was just seeing reports about it causing back/head injuries to the babies. Is this true? We're trying to get her back into her bassinet or crib, but she hates them both.. She'll sleep in our bed, but me and DH hardly get any sleep, we're too worried about harming her.

Ok do you mean the whole head shaping issues from prolonged exposure?

You an put pillows or books under her crib mattress. She may be accustomed to the incline and want that. If you guys aren't heavy sleeper then you may want to consider bed sharing. I was scared at first but there are ways to safely do it. We've been bed sharing for 5 months now with relatively no problems.

I'm not sure if there was an offical report/recall on the item, but a lot of people are saying babies can have irreversible skull damage needing a helmet, and back problems. I just wasn't sure how true this was, because my daughter always sleeps in hers. And shes a 10hour night time sleeper and 3-4 hour napper.. I just get worried.

DD had some plagiocephaly but I'm not sure if it's from being a preemie, the nicu, the swing or the rocker or just because. I used to tuck a soft towel behind her head and behind the fabric in the back to offer more protection. I can see it causing those kind of problems though.

My daughter slept in hers for months! I loved that thing. I was so sad when she got too big for it. She is 10 months now and she has no problems

I dunno I think people get a bit dramatic about it.... My boy is in a RNP Sleeper, and all I did was take a blanket and fold it in half and put it in between the cot and the plastic. Now its padded and its not causing any issues whatsoever for him. I think people need to chill out and think about options of fixing the problem rather than beating a club like a cave man. But that's my suggestion, put a blanket in between right down to where the buckles come out.

I don't know what I would do without the Rock 'N Play Sleepers. My daughter slept in hers until she was 4-5 months old. She easily transitioned to the swing and then to the crib. She is now 9 months old and she is just fine. I am 7 months pregnant too (they will be 11 months apart in age) and my husband got laid-off so we are living with my mother in a small 2 bedroom house. Since my husband and I are in the same room as my daughter we cannot fit another crib in here so we plan to use the Rock 'N Play for our son (we will hopefully have our own place by the time he is 4-5 months old and is ready for a crib). I know these sleepers are awesome in my opinion though. They are handy to have, easy to move and store, and help a lot with babies with acid reflux problems. I see no reason why they can't use them as their primary sleeping place as a newborn. =D

My daughter will be 6 months and has no problems, I was just wondering if anyone else did. What do you guys mean by swing? Like a normal baby swing? My daughter hates hers! Its like she too big for it..
