Nursing in Public (NIP) - Is Covering Up Necessary?

What has sparked this question was having posted a picture on Facebook. It shows a woman nursing in public - uncovered. The caption on it reads:

"When you say 'I support breastfeeding but.....' you do not support breastfeeding."

An ex-co worker of mine quickly commented "WRONG!" I asked how it was wrong, or if she could give me an example. Her response was that she was all about breastfeeding but women should cover up because she doesn't want to see someone's "tit."

Just wondering about other people's thoughts. Is this a normal way of thinking?

I say nurse whenever, where ever..cover or no cover.

I nurse uncovered. Eff 'em!

I nurse in public, but I cover up because I don't want people looking at my boobies. But I don't care if others don't cover, they shouldn't have to.

I only nursed for a few days, but I see women nursing uncovered in public a lot.
Doesn't bother me any.

No cover needed if mom and baby are comfy. And yes i agree with the statement I dont you can say I support anything but.... You either do or your dont.

I would and will cover myself with my future children. Regardless of what people used to do or what people should think and what society has changed....boobs are "private parts" and I don't want someone to have to have a talk with their child that they're not ready for because I decided not to cover up. On top of the fact that I don't want anyone looking at my ninnies.

Private parts? What about some floozy in a Victoria's Secret advertisement on TV? Pretty sure you see more boob that way than you do from a woman breastfeeding without a cover.

This, when I nursed in public, I covered myself, but that was because of my own modesty, I don't look down on people who nurse uncovered or covered, its a natural thing.
