"MIL" advice

posted 5th Jan
So my bf's mom has said through my whole pregnancy that it is "tradition for grandma to buy baby's going home outfit." Since we decided not to find out what we are having, she doesn't know what to buy....however, at Christmas, I was informed that if I have a girl, she has a lady on call to make a last minute huge tutu for her to wear home. Everyone, including my bf knows my stance on frilly, frufru on babies (and he completely agrees). It was hard to bite my tongue when she told me this. How do I avoid the tutu without hurting any feelings? Especially since we have both been telling everyone nothing incredibly frilly....

I wouldnt follow tradition. Frills on a baby sounds rough anyway, there skin is so soft. Just dont dress your lilone in it   Go home secretly.

She is making that tradition up so she gets to buy the coming home outfit. No doubt in my mind.

i would just tell her that you would prefer it not be a tutu, as you aren't in to frilly, tacky smurf

Tell her....I mean, I am lucky, I love my MIL but my stance on that kind of stuff is that if it is important to you speak up. That is an odd tradition also.

tell her you don't want the tutu thing, but if she wants to buy an outfit now, there are things like this. they are reversible, depending on what you wind up having

I'd just be honest with her and tell her that you appreciate that she wants to do this for you and all, but you don't think that tutus are the way to go. Or tell her that you want to pick out the outfit yourself. It is your child after all. Just make sure you let her know you appreciate her for wanting to help. No matter what you tell her, she will have that chance of being upset, but its better she knows how you feel about it.

I would tell her the tutu won't be safe in the car seat if it's too puffy.
I would let her get the going home outfit though, with my MIL, I'd be lucky if that was the only thing she wanted to do.

Apparently, her mom did it for all her kids and she did it for my bf's sister, but my thing is....this kid has 2 grandmas, not 1. What if my mom wanted to do something?

And as far a out fitting in the car seat, that's what I wanna know?! It's the middle of winter! It's gonna have a blanket and car seat cover on....how the hell it's it even going to be comfortable?
