DPO VS. Days past conception

posted 5th Jan
I've been having a debate with a friend and I figure what better place to ask than here....

Ok DPO is obviously after days after ovulation... but hypothetically speaking, the egg can live for up to 48 hours... Right? Suppose you conceive 2 days AFTER you ovulate... Would you adjust your DPO according to conception or does it stay the same regardless of when you conceive? The average person gets a BFP on an FRER at 10 DPO. But say you conceived 2DPO that would only put the egg at 8 days old...

Basically what I'm gettiing at is this

She is TTC. Had sex a day or two after she think she ovulated. But she's unsure how many DPO to count herself as since she had sex POST ovulation.. WDYT? I'm not sure exactly how many DPO she is let's just assume she ovulated like Dec. 28 which would put her at 9 DPO tomorrow... but say she didn't have sex until dec 29th or 30th. Would she still be able to get the same results as someone that was 9DPO even though she conceived a day later?

I am not sure the question even makes any sense because now I'M confused lol it makes sense to us though

It can be easy to know when you ovulate...but knowing when conception ACTUALLY took place...is anybodys guess. Just stick to DPO

DPO wouldn't change if she had sex after ovulation.

My OB figures my EDD based on my LMP anyway

The egg usually lives closer to 24 hours than 48. Some say 12. She is actually much more unlikely to conceive if she has sex after she ovulates because it takes time for the sperm to travel to the tubes. The egg lives such a short amount of time it's fairly safe to say that conception occurs shortly after ovulation. Usually the sperm are right there waiting.

You generally won't conceive if you've had sex after ovulation and not before. An egg is only viable for max 24 hours, usually only about twelve, and the sperm needs to already be on its way to the fallopian tubes to catch the egg in time. With natural family planning, they say 48 hours just to be safe, on the off chance that both ovaries release an egg, the second 24hrs after the first, but that is an extremely unlikely scenario. So typically ovulation day IS conception day, regardless of when you had sex.

Only the sexiest sperm gets to penetrate the egg.

I think my eggs must be lesbian or ridiculously picky because they just aren't interested.
