brushing gums

posted 5th Jan
So I read the other day that I should be brushing DS gums already so the he gets used to it when he actually has teeth. It said it could be either with a wash cloth or something like that. When did you actually start doing it? Before they got teeth or did you wait? Also, we have this toothbrush that is super soft and says for all ages so would you use that on your babies guns or should I just use a washcloth?

When I noticed DD was teething, I started using a washcloth on her gums. It helped soothe the gums while cleaning em

I started wiping their gums with a washcloth super early. But, when I was in highschool, I rode the bus with a girl who was in PreK, and had to have all of her teeth removed because they were rotten. That's freaked me out about teeth ever since.

So would you suggest just using the washcloth or do you think it would be ok to use that toothbrush?

I started brushing my son's teeth when he started teething (3 months) with this tooth brush I found that I found that was rubber and went on the tip of my finger. He's now 15 months and brushes his teeth constantly (only twice a day with kid's tooth paste) with a $5 vibrating tooth brush at wal-mart lol

I started almost right after he was born. I tried to remember to do it after almost every feeding. I would wipe his teeth and tongue off with a receiving blanket. Now that he has 2 teeth, I use the soft brush and baby toothpaste every now and then.

I was just going to recommend the rubber tip that goes on your finger too! My mom found it at walmart, she got one for the dog. The next time I go to walmart, I'll be picking one up for my 4 month old. I'm going to refrigerate it before I use it each time because he is starting to teeth. I figure it will be a nice relief along with using his teething rings.

I got a couple of them because he liked to play with them. They are amazing, and they bring great relief

Aww, don't feel bad, Mama! If it wasn't for my pedi, I would have assumed you didn't need to start oral care til they had teeth.
