I never had migraines before... (a little long)

posted 5th Jan
I was pregnant. I had headaches off and on, sure, but now after I've had DD I've been getting migraines that are bad enough it feels like my eyeballs are melting down my face and my brain is trying to leak out through the sockets. I don't always have them but it seems like they happen at least every other day. So I started talking to my MIL and she had the same problem; turns out it came from the epidural (which I had one as well with DD 3 weeks ago) and had to have a blood patch I think it was called. Could this be happening for me too? Pain pills seems to help some, so does caffeine, but it doesn't get rid of them, just dulls them to make them more tolerable.

Also, I've noticed off and on that I still get sciatic nerve pain; and this odd prickling tingling sensation right in the same area where they put the epidural. The doctor did have a little trouble getting the epi in, because apparently my spine has a slight curve to it. When I get the tingle it almost feels like I have either hot, hot water being sprinkled on my back (not in a pleasant way) or like I'm getting little pins put in my back, just a slight sting.

I mentioned the migraines to my doc at my 2 week check up and that I'd never had them before DD was born and he asked what I was taking for them. I told him I was alternating between naproxen and hydrocodone that I was prescribed for my csection pain and he immediately wrote another prescription for the hydrocodone. Could he have known the migraines came from the epidural but just didn't say anything?

Do your headaches feel better when you are laying down for a period of time... and then get bad when you stand/sit up?

Yes. Laying down doesn't make them go away but it does help, especially if my eyes are closed. Lights and loud sounds hurt too

Well a spinal headache feels better when you lay down and becomes excruciating when you stand up. That's because of the uneven fluid around the brain.

But it sounds like you most likely just have a migraine. That won't go away, I know the feeling. It SUCKS. I doubt it's a spinal headache though. If you do lay down and it hurts like, 5% and then when you stand up it's immediately jumping to 95% worst pain youve ever been in... it might be a spinal headache and you need a blood patch.

I guess it's both good and bad news then. Good news that it's not a spinal and bad news that I'm probably just stuck with it then -.-' Thank you very much though!
