remedies for croup?

posted 5th Jan
i took her outside, turned the heat down, and cranked up the humidifier. she's still breathing funny. she's also teething and cranky   what else can I do? I don't think it's doctor time yet since she doesnt have a fever.

When my kids had it I pretty much just used the humidifier, used Vick's vapor rub and steamed them in the bathroom. Plus I gave them lots of fluids. There really isn't much you CAN do for it but let it run its course and keep an eye on them to make sure it doesn't develop into RSV.

Asher didn't have a fever and we thought he might would have had Croup..he was coughing as much as I was, and I would cough so hard that I'd throw up a bit of mucous. We tried vicks on the feet, and sitting in the bathroom with us for a couple days during showers. I gave up and took him to the doctor, turns out he had an upper respiratory infection and the antibiotics helped immediately. Addy's in Prek, so she brings stuff home now! He's 3 months.

I'd take her in.

If she's still having a hard time, she might need meds. DS always has a hard time getting past it without it... Even if she doesn't have a fever, I'd still go.

Otherwise, cold things like popsicles and ice water usually help. I'm not sure how old she is.

what's RSV? I'll keep an eye on her to make sure its not an upper respiratory infection. I'll steam her in the shower.

It doesnt matter if she doesnt have a fever. You need to take her in if shes breathing funny. Croup can be very dangerous if you arent careful. One of my sons was almost hospitalized because of it. She probably needs a breathing treatment and steroids

Well I think it's hard to spot on your own, he had no fever, but had a slightly runny nose and was coughing alot. I felt so bad for him, I didn't think it was an URI either. If I were you I'd take her in though.

I would just go in. I'm always told that if the cold doesn't stop them from breathing weird or wheezing, then go in. I'm really not one for running for meds all the time, but my son gets croup all the time, and for that we always end up at the pedi or urgent care getting either a steroid or a breathing treatment.

If she is breathing funny she needs to go in- it can escalate quickly if not taken care of. Not trying to scare you one bit, just concerned.
