should a woman say.. D&D.

posted 5th Jan
Okay this isn't my personal beliefs so don't jump.my ass about this.
Just a question, mkay?

I was having a conversation with a friend and we were discussing c sections.
Now here's the question..
Do you think a woman has the right to say "I gave birth" when she had a c section?
I mean isn't giving birth literally pushing a baby out of your vagina..?
Pretty much my friend says that if you have a c section then you have no grounds to claim you gave birth.
She says.. "they get the easy way out, they just lay there and someone cuts the baby out"

What are your feelings?

Idk, I don't say I gave birth because she was cut out of my uterus and I think it sounds weird lol.

ETA: Also MOST c-sections are emergency ones which means the woman did go through labor & something happened so most of the time they did do work of labor. May not of pushed the baby out but same difference. I was in labor for almost 2 days, I would say I did go through some smurf lol. I had no EPI either so I felt those damn pitocin contractions.

Definition of Birth - The emergence of a baby or other young from the body of its mother; the start of life as a physically separate being.

Doesn't say it has to be through the vagina.

Your friend is an ass.

I labored for 2 days before I needed an emergency c-section ... Lo was just not going to come out any other way.

Damn right I gave birth.

I think either way a baby came out of your stomach so you gave birth. Ether cut out or pushed out through your vagina it's still giving birth

Technically, the child did not come out of your stomach.....

I HATE when people see things like this.

Just because I had a c-section, doesn't mean I "took the easy way out". I had major surgery to deliver my child in a way that we would both survive. I felt like I needed to hold my guts in just to walk to the toilet, but I still chose this method of delivery because it was what ensured the safe birth of my child.

Am I less of a woman, less of a mother for this? Absolutely not.

And yes, I still gave birth. Three times.

I've never really thought about it. But I wouldn't exactly call a c-section the easy way out... not to mention sometimes the mother doesn't have a choice but to have a c-section.

Exactly. It isn't like we chose to have the c-section, so we didn't have to do the work or some smurf.

Vaginal....not necessarily natural.

I would have a B.F. if I carried my child for 9 months and someone tried to tell me I didn't "give birth." Ive not had a c section but if I had I wouldn't consider it to be the "easy way out." Your friend is ignorant if she thinks a major surgery like a c section is an easy way out.

Sure why not? There was a baby born, that came from their body. I don't think it's fair that your friend is so judgmental to say that is the "easy" way out when many moms go through everything except pushing the baby out, and recovery is a bitch not "easy" by any means.
