DD has a cold! help!

posted 5th Jan
SO had a cold a week ago. He got over it, I caught it, now DD caught it. She is coughing and sounds congested. She's only 14 weeks old. I'm waiting for the nurse on call to call me back so I can see what she thinks I should do.. I figured in the mean time while I wait, I can ask on here. Is there anything they can do for her? Or what can I do for her? Ftm so Idk what to do.

She is congested, has a cough, and no fever. I've had the humidifier (sp?) Going day and night and suction her nose with saline and the bulb.

There isn't much they are going to tell you to do. Just keep her as comfortable as possible, saline and suction is really all they are going to tell you anyways.

Keep an eye on her soft spot if it starts to "sink" inwards it means she's dehydrated.

She still has her appetite which is great. And still no fever, another good sign. I just get scared cause RSV and whooping cough is going around. But she seems ok now. I just have to keep an eye on her.

I don't like seeing her sick.

The saline nose spray will be your friend. I hope you have a nose squeegie thingy. You need to use those 2 together. I normally keep a humidifier going in their room when they're sick. If she gets a fever, my pedi doesn't recommend that we treat it until it's over 102 or they're acting miserable. A fever is part of their immune system and suppressing it is basically suppressing their immune system. Outside of that, she should be fine. It won't be a fun week, but unfortunately it comes with the territory.

We had that horrible flu/chest cold thing go through our house during christmas. My middle baby spent 1 day puking and the cold part lasted for 2 weeks. I got hit pretty hard too. I'm bummed about missing christmas/new years.

Put a wedge under her crib mattress (if you aren't co-sleeping, that is) to keep her elevated, and take her into a steamy bathroom for a few minutes to help loosen the congestion. DS has a cold right now too   It's heartbreaking.
