potttty training :-)

posted 5th Jan
SO and i have talked about it and we think we want to introduce DD to the potty when she officially starts walking. i know some people who have done this and have had success with it. i know it's early, but we want to put the idea in her head as soon as possible and start working on it.

when did you start potty training and what kind of tips do you have?

I think its fine to introduce them, but don't put too much pressure on yourself or the baby. Remember that they really need to be mature enough physically and emotionally for stuff like that.

I didn't do anything to start potty training. Both of my kids just did it when they were ready. Cylus was a little over 3 and A was right after her 2nd birthday.

learn her signals watch what she does and figure out what she does right before she poops or pees so you can anticipate it and put her on the potty before it goes, you can try letting her run around with nothing on and just a long shirt, keep the potty out in plain sight for out of sight out of mind. Every time she goes make a big excited fuss and praise her like crazy it will make her more prone to go, you can do sticker charts or a special treat doesn't have to be sweets it can just be a food that she likes a lot take it away a few days prior to starting then reward her with it when she goes potty lol there is a bunch of ways hope that helps :-)

My son saw a boy go pee on the potty at daycare and then naturally wanted to do it to he was potty trained as far as pee by 12 months and completely potty trained poop and pee at 15 months.

Introducing the potty, letting him sit on it once in awhile and explaining it was how I started, then I just let him take over from there.

And like another woman said, no pressure. There is nothing worse than seeing the "OMFG my daughter is 18 months and still not PT'd could she have a delay?!" posts on here.

My son was late [after 3] but I can count on one hand the number of accidents he's had since being fully trained.

That is what we are doing and people keep getting me on about it because our daughter just turned three and still in diapers lol.

these are some good tips. i definitely won't be putting pressure on her... she's just a baby. i'm crossing my fingers she'll pick up on it quickly because she has with everything else (lucky me!). i DEFINITELY know her poop cues, lol. i'm not so sure about peeing, though. i'll have to start paying closer attention to that.

Lol I was in shock when A started using the potty. I just about started crying like a baby. I Thought I at least had another 6 months.   It is the only way I wuold ever go! Cylus has had a handful of accidents since he has been pt'd but some were at night and the others were when he was sick

i know a girl that was almost FIVE YEARS OLD and was still in diapers... an attempt to potty train her wasn't even being made. ugh... she was literally getting ready to go into school.

three isn't such a big deal   lol

i was potty trained by almost 3 (because my dad had adopted me and hadn't been really in my life until then and he was the one doing the potty training) and both of my younger brothers were fully potty trained before 2. my dad must be a potty training wiz (no pun intended, haha).

I got plenty of smurf for it, too. Of course there are incentives [sticker charts, ect.] but if nothing is working, pushing it when the child doesn't want to sure as hell won't work.

Well we do have undies she picked out in the house just in case. She has actually peed in the toilet a couple times. It's difficult, but I'm really trying to go just by her and ignore everyone else.

Cylus's big thing was after he went to school he saw everybody else going potty and decided it was time for him to do it. He could have well before then, but he opted not to so yea.
