re: Baby food

I started Heathen on baby food when she was 4 months. I made all her food, and would mix cereal in with it if it was too thin, but never really gave her just cereal

Ugh, I hate when my mom uses that "you turned out fine!" argument.

No, mom, I turned out fat and unhealthy. I have a heart condition and am borderline diabetic...

love this. and so true. i mentioned in a different post how cereal causes diabetes and obesity and other moms were like "my kids fine" well my mother has smoked a pack a day for 16 years and hasnt gotten cancer but my dad smoked for 10 and died from it. so just because one kid seems to be ok for now doesnt mean their "fine"

also if you want to experiment with food but you arent sure if LO is ready, try baby oatmeal. There isnt any arsenic in it like rice cereal.

I have that argument with people all the time. When I mention that something is risky they're like, "my kid is fine". Yeah, that you can see, so far. And a risk doesn't mean it's 100%, so just because your kid is "fine", doesn't mean every kid will be. So why take that risk?

Personally I don't plan to start solids until 6 months, and then we will start with fruit/vegetable purees...DH and I plan to make our own baby food.

yeah we started dd at 4 moths like i said because of reflux but it was only ever a couple bites here and there. she will be 6 months in a week and the most she has ever had in a day is 1oz. and we make our own using a beaba. we LOVE it! I believe "food before one is just for fun"  

Yeah we started DS at 4 months too after his pedi gave us the go-ahead. He had bad reflux as well, even with zantac and prevacid. Also, I didn't know any better at the time. Thanks to BG and my own personal research, I feel like I know much more this time around!

DD will be EBF for at least 6 months.

I love my kid's pedi...but sometimes I just smile and nod at what he says and then do my own thing. He's been around forever. He was MY pedi.


Also...some babies can go a week or more without pooping. Doesn't necessarily mean they're constipated...sometimes it's just their norm.

Or maybe the solids you are feeding them, before they can properly digest them, are causing tummy problems?

just because you dont agree with it doesn make it right or wrong everybody parents differently. i didnt even try to breastfed either *GASP* formula right from he moment she was born.
