what the heck???

posted 5th Jan
My 20 yr old sister in law has been admitted to the hospital since friday morning.she is around 37.5 weeks. When I checked on her progresslast night she was still only 1 cm. Im confused why they even admitted her if she was not laboring hard enough? Couldnt or shouldnt they had just given her another 2 wks at least to see if she would dialate and labor further before just admitting her? Idk any dr who would admitt someone at 1 cmwith over 2 wks left before due date.now this morning after 48 hrs of unsucessful labor their giving her a cesction. Her water was still in tact so im just confused wth they did not just send her home. Unfortunately she is all the way in nyc and im in ky. I delivered all my children before 37 weeks and was admitted to the hospital at 3.5/4 cm each time.my first labor was 18.5 hrs with epi my last 2 natural no meds were 9-12hrs but i dialated on my own.

I'm going to assume there's complications, like stress on the fetus or something.

Maybe the baby is under stress? Or something else isnt looking good.

Maybe she has GD? Maybe her water broke 24 hours ago?

Or maybe not. NYC is notorious for unnecessary c-sections. It's sick. Hopefully they are not feeding her some bullsmurf just to get the baby out and over with.

Wouldnt they had given her a emergency csection right away then instead of having her laboring for two days no success.she told me at her 37 wk check up the dr said if she was not in labor within 4 days she is most likely going to get a c section.

Her water never even broke. She was only 37.5 wks, no gd, pregnancy normal.her dr to.d her at her 37 wk check upshe needed to be in labor within a few days on her own or pbbly gettin csection.her dr sounds not right to me.if she was in distress why not operate right away.this was pretty much planned.

I don't know... maybe she was labouring hard but not progressing fast enough? Or maybe they were monitoring the baby and after a couple days the stress was too much? It sounds like they were trying to have her go on her own?

Or maybe she wasn't progressed enough but they wanted her money anyways, so they kept her and gave her an unnecessary c-section, lol

Who knows.

Not if she has GD, or the baby has a nutrition issue, there could be so many reasons but it definitely sounds like there is one.
Idc what dr you are you know that you don't go in for a csection at37 wks without a medical reason. I know some might do it but I think that number is slim.

Im sad for her. I know she is so scared.it is her first baby and i feel like she really had no choice. My other sil is due this mth also. She is 38.my hubby has 8 sisters.Im due end of may and most likely will deliver between 36-38 wks. I never made it past 36 wks and 6 days with any of my kids. Im hoping to make it to 38 wks this time so when my mom is visiting she can be at the birth but who knows. It just sucks though. I had all vaginal deliveries so csections just scare me.

If she was further along and they were telling her that I would say she has a smurffy dr. I know a lot of dr talk induction and csection once you hit your due date but I haven't heard of or met one that does it at 37wks.
Ill be saying a prayer for her and her LO.
Hope it all goes smoothly and they are fine/happy/healthy.
