Car seat question- Australian standards.

I seem to post them all the time...
1. At what WEIGHT do you move from a 5 point harness
2. At what age should you use an h harness?
3. If a child exceeds the weight limit of a five point harness but is young do you put them in an h harness.


Is it more dangerous to use a 5 point on a child who exceeds the weight limit or put a young child in an h harness.

Also can you buy extender straps for a 5 point.

I went and bought a H seat harness not realising that it said 4 years + and my son is only 2. But, my son IS 14kg which is the weight limit for it so I may use it at around 3. Because aswell as that seat i still have 2 others.

Thanks, my son is 2, I think his current seat is 18kg until you convert the seat to a booster with an h harness. But I thought the h harness was from 4. He's 18 plus kg now, the straps are extended to the end. I don't know what to do.
I've posted about this when he went from rf to ff as he exceeded the weight limit for rf b4 6 months. Aaaagh. I may take it into a police station. I don't know what to do. I want him safe and I want to follow the law!

That was the problem with mine. I dont know if its 4 AND 14 kilos + or if its just one or the other!

It is 4 AND 14+kgs to use anything but a 5 point harness

A H harness is only to be used on a booster seat where there is only a lap belt available.

Max weight limit for a harness is around 25KG's for most carseats so there's no reason to be using a H harness for an under 4 child unless they are very large.

I was hoping you'd respond!
I bought the car seat after I think you or someone recommended it last time.
The 5 point is literally extended the whole way. I think it's 18kg, I'm sure he weighs more.
My eldest is using a safe and sound convertible as a booster- he's 5 1/2 with the belt. I'm thinking I may swap them put the 5 point back in the safe and sound and put the older child in the other seat as a booster.
Fingers crossed.
I used a higher car recently and their baby seat was also at the belt ends.
