Preemie carseat

posted 5th Jan
IF she comes at term, I will be using a Diono Radian RXT from birth on, but if she is born teeny, I know it will be a bit big on her and I'll need to use an infant seat instead of going straight for my awesome amazing convertible.

So, what's a GOOD SAFE infant seat that's rated for teeny babies (0-4lbs) that is also cheap? I'll literally only be using it til baby is big enough to use the Diono, which I'm hoping won't be long at all.

Plus, I'll be buying last minute because I don't KNOW she'll be preemie (she probably will be a little earlier than she's supposed to be, but my son was 10lbs, so with the steroid shots and me growing big babies, she may not be teeny enough to need the infant seat).

SUGGESTIONS?!?

I believe if they are under 5 lbs they require a car bed.

I think it depends on the hospital, because my daughter went home at 4lbs 10oz, and she went home in a regular carseat, now if I could only think of which one it was. I know it was a Graco, and a travel system, but other than that, don't remember which one

Not always. my oldest was 4lbs and able to leave the hospital in a regular infant carrier as long as the straps were adjusted right. I believe the one they gave me was a GRACO

It depends on if she will pass a car seat test and if the carseat will be rated for a baby 4 lbs or so. I know I follow a baby on Facebook and she went home at 3 lb 9 oz and she went home in a carbed. She simply was just too tiny to be in a regular infant carseat

My 31 weekers, and IUGR 34 weekers came home in a car bed issued by the hospital. They had to ride in them until they reached 5lbs. I "believe" all hospitals supply them for free.

The hospital my oldest was born at said if he couldnt pass a car seat test then he would need the bed. he passed with flying colors. he was also 31 weeks and was only 4lbs 13oz when he came home.

I guess they all are different... My girls passed the test but still had to use the seats. Our infant carseat was 5-25lbs and with the girls being 4lbs and a few ounces going home they wouldn't allow them to ride in the regular seat.

I'll add this to my list of questions for the hospital tour I'm taking later this month (I plan to do a tour in Jan or early Feb focusing on the NICU situation at the hospital and what services and such I should be aware of for preemies, then do another tour in April if I'm not on bed rest focusing more on the L&D stuff---I've done it before and have talked to my doc already about the L&D stuff, so I'm covered there pretty well, especially since I've already gone into triage for an IV once and know the procedure).

I was told to ask about free "loaner" hospital pumps if she's in the NICU too. That'll be nice because I HATE pumping and won't do it much at all if she can take the breast.

The hospital issued the.car seat because I went into labor.so suddenly that I didnt get to buy one lol. One minute I was using the.restroom at.a gas station and the.next my water broke and I had to have an emergency csection because he was breech and they couldnt get him to turn.
