re: Leaving children in the car...

Quoting THE KATIE PRICE:" There is no way that my LO would be able to get it into drive or neutral with the ignition on...but, ... [snip!] ... ignition on...but, I would never risk it! We all make mistakes, I learnt from mine. He thought he was awesome afterwards lol"

yeah that was one summer when I had flown in to visit my mom, and didn't have my car, so she loaned me her old truck for when I was in town.. I will never put a toddler in the front seat of a truck again... and I had forgotten about it until a few months ago at dinner when he announced "remember when you were pumping gas and I drove memaw's truck?" she looked at me like wtf?

Quoting DannyPete&MaggieKate's Ma:" lol I was thinkin the same thing! In my second grade school picture I have a chain with my house key ... [snip!] ... my key like once a month). So I was like 7 and my 9 year old sister and I get a snack and watch tv until my parents got here."

when I was 9 (my older sister was 11) we rode the bus home, let ourselves in with our key, and waited about an hour before mom got home. we let the dogs out, watered them, made our snacks... but we lived in a rural community. I wouldn't trust my kids alone where we live now. I think it all just depends on what kind of community you live in.

Until they are old enough to take their seat belt off, get out the car and have the common sense to get to safety? Idk, probably at his teen years. 13 +.

Dd can do all that now. She's five.

Heck, at 13, I was an overnight weekend nanny for a family with three little boys.

Well yeah, but smurf happens. What happens if some creep spots you going t the store while you leave your LO in the car so he tries to go and snatch her or something? Although, odds are that won't happen it still could. I don't picture a five year old reacting, I see them being scared and panicking.

I don't know, I used to stay home alone at 13. I was able to cook myself a meal at 13 but still. When it comes to my kid's safety I'm a freak. I worry more than most parents I know. I imagine situations I know will likely not happen but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I only recently left my 9 year old in the car alone for a few minutes with her siblings. the weather was cool but not freezing and i could see the vehicle from the inside of the gas station. and i was the only one in line so it was a quit "heres a 20 on pump 4" and i was out again. thats the extent though. and I left them cause i was literally on E (and had been for a while) and my 2 younger children were passed out, there was NO chance I was gonna be able to drag them inside or wait to get gas any longer.
