Cultural names are beautiful. I would not combine them, keep the original traditional spellings. I grew up with a lot of middle Easterns and they all had cultural names, nobody had a problem saying their names once learned. I have a cultural Chinese name, I've never had any problems. I like them both, the meaning is beautiful.

Quoting Salad Fingers:" No, don't be. I don't expect everyone to love names they aren't used to. It's just tough finding names ... [snip!] ... Who am I kidding, if I do have a son, he'll probably just end up being named Mohammed or Ahmed like everyone else lol."

yea that must be really hard   I'm sure you can find a name more uncommon than Mohammed though!

lol, don't feel bad. My hubby is muslim and even though i'm not, the two sons we have together have arabic names. One is Tabari (Tah bar ee), and Jaleel Amir is the other. It was hard for me to find names i could agree on because the pronunciation of some of them were not to my liking. They both have great arabic meanings and now we are having a daughter together and her name will be Khalilah (kah lee lah), which is the female version of "friend of God". I know it can be hard at times when your trying to respect your culture, but go with the name you like that has a great meaning and try not to worry so much about what people think. Good luck!

Quoting Salad Fingers:" Yeah and we also have to worry about avoiding outdated names too, lol. Like maybe I love some names ... [snip!] ... what people think but I want my children's classmates/teachers/professors/employers to feel comfortable saying their names."
I can totally understand. That's why i agreed on names that were easy to pronounce and didn't sound so bad. I didn't want my kids made fun of, but picking a name with a beautiful meaning in God's eyes is just as important. So far, nobody has made fun of their names, i hope it stays that way.

I know what you mean, OP. I'm naming my daughter "Hadassah". We'll call her "Haddie" for short. People are extremely rude about her full name, but I don't care because giving her a Hebrew name is extremely important to me and it's a beautiful name. It's also extremely honorable in the Jewish culture as Hadassah was Queen Esther's Hebrew name, and Esther is an extremely important figure in the Jewish faith considering she saved the Jews. People are rude. Call him "Izzy" which is cute, and give your child the name you want him to have.
